Recently Added for TV - Give us more shows in Recently Added Dashboard

The way “Recently Added” works has been changed recently, so that the amount of posters showing in the TV show section of the dashboard can drop significantly depending on how you add new media.

A brief explanation was provided here:

The new Web UI will only lists the shows for the first 50 episodes, so if you just added a show with 40 new episodes and the next show has 10 or more new episodes, only these 2 shows will be listed. If you add 50 new episodes from 50 different shows, all 50 will appear. This limit is only for the Dashboard. If you go into the library and set the filter or sort order, all episodes and all shows will be listed.

This implementation would almost work if you added individual episodes more or less on a daily basis. But if you add a complete series, “Recently Added” is basically useless.

The Dashboard is the landing page, and you should see and expect a summary of Recently Added TV shows. It should list that there are X episodes of TV Show one, X episodes of TV Show 2, etc. I cannot imagine a scenario where I would want the Dashboard to only show one or two Recently Added posters, regardless of how many episodes of one particular series I have added. I should not have to enter the library to see the full list. As the admin of the server, I would know there are more episodes, but anyone I share with would not.

Please reconsider the method for Recently Added TV shows, so that it combines individual episodes into one poster for the series, and the logic for the decision for the number of items displayed is based on “Series” or “Shows” not episodes.

+1 Common sense fix here. Please.

The max episode may have changed before it’s triggered but this has been a problem for as long as I can recall, it’s not new. It’s also not just in the Web UI, it effects nearly every client. I think the only one that doesn’t do this is the Samsung app. As someone who often adds box sets in one go, it’s always been absolutely infuriating to me and causes endless confusion for my family.

David - Just to clarify is this a problem that If I add a show that I previously didnt have with 50 + ep’s this will wipe the recently added TV shows ?

hope this makes sense

+1 for a fix for this. I’ve been going through adding whole series of shows from several years back - While also still updating the shows I watch currently, as new episodes come out… And the new shows end up falling off the recently added, as soon as I add one or two of the old series’ in. Would muuuuch rather it have a hard limit of X shows(IE, 50 icons), not a hard limit of X items.

+1… Just ran into this issue. Hopefully it can fixed soon…

+1 to fix this, I cut the cord over a year ago now and I upload complete shows etc along with shows that are currently being aired. Every time I add an complete series it removes everything from the Recently Added except for the newly added show. Please fix this.

+1 I agree, this sucks when you rip a whole box set.

This still really, really should be fixed. There is extreme accordance across so many users that this is needed. It destroys the functionality of Recently added if you add a large number of episodes at one, washing out the things that people really would like to see. There are many, many times that people miss when things are added, because they’re pushed off the Recently added list when a whole season/show is added.

Limiting it to 50 posters which group episodes of the same season under the same poster, is a great way to do this.

I agree…The limitation should be based on Seasons or Shows instead of Episodes.

+1 not a logical application of what recently added should mean. I just added 100+ eps of an old series and now I only have one recently added TV show.
Please fix the assessment logic of what is ‘recent’

It would make sense if the listing was showing each episode…But it doesn’t it only shows seasons or series so that is what they should be counting in the limitation.

Is there still no answer to this? i have the same issue and i hate it only to have 1 or 2 recently added tv shows. So my family only see 1 if i add 2 series witch has more than 50 episodes. Sorry but this sucks…
I hope they’ll fix it, thanks.

This is something i’d like adjusted also please. It makes me just stagger my full tv series to Plex so it doesn’t throw off the entire recently added list.

Exactly what I do. Has to be the UGLIEST workaround ever.

Complete box set ripped and ready to be added, but only add 4 or 5 episodes, wait a few days, add 3 or 4 more, and then only after you have added a few other TV episodes in between the staggered additions, or you will end up with several posters of the same TV series. I still find it hard to believe that this is the intended result.

Update after update and this is still broken. Please, please, please fix this.

Bumping… hoping something might happen with this illogical and dysfunctional implementation of Recently Added Television. No one can possibly believe we want only one or two posters and expect users to browse and filter thru libraries to find the “Real” recently added

It’s really disappointing to see bugs ignored for months and months :frowning:

I still cry everytime is see this problem :’(

Anyone have a good workaround?

Good? No. As mentioned you can go for the ridiculously tedious manual copying of each handful of episodes over a period of time and mix up the order in which PMS scans different shows to emulate their single episode release presentation.

Not opting for that, I still see only 2 shows in my recents at most. 8-}
