Folder support when browsing films.

One of the annoying things about the xbox one app and one of the useful things about the original app for the Roku was the ability to browse by folder on the attached server. I have my movies broken down by folder on the server and makes for finding particular movies and television shows much easier. Why has this not been implemented in the xbox one and the new roku app?

While Plex does not release their roadmap/priorities, I would venture a guess that the Filters/Sorts were not as high as the other features they are currently adding (Missing Library types, Play Queues, MKV direct play, etc)

This is the list of future features that they want to implement (Not in a prioritized order)

Features still to be implemented:
Photos
Channels
Search
Filters and sort
Fast User switch (although Home/multiuser support is possible with multiple XB1 accounts)
Companion
Secure connections
Post Play
Cloud Sync
More Direct Play capabilities

@ZombieHorde - Out of interest, how do you organise your movie/TV folders? I’d like to understand more why people like the folder views.

I have them categorized by various types of movies. Animated, Action, Anime, War, John Wayne, Disaster Movies, James Bond, etc, etc. It’s a way for me to group them arbitrarily and allow me to find movies based around my own internal logic. Some are by a specific actor, director, type of movie, genre, and so on.

Thanks! That’s helpful.

And not that it helps a huge amount - but we have Collection support in some of our apps (but not XB1 yet, sorry!) for doing this kind of categorizing. That way you can even have a film be in two different collections (like some Disaster Anime featuring John Wayne? )

Actually Disaster Action featuring John Wayne…

At least that would let me put things into some sort of arbitrary collection. The lack of folder support, however, just make my wife angy… ^:)^
