First, I have a stable backbone with PMS installed on a Win 7 PC. Initially, both PMS and the client were installed on the same PC and performance was flawless and all that with a multitude of skin selections available.
The PC in the living room is not ideal. On the quest to find the best set top. Anyway, I tested 2.1. The UI randomly freezes, not all artwork/posters appear. It goes into a stand still.
Version 1.35 has been the most stable in terms of presenting all the artwork and playing media without stutter. Anything above 1.35 and I get stutter on higher bit rate material. Whatever the condition of the code was at 1.35 for playback it was the best. For what it's worth...
Request: At some point soon can view setting get some attention? View setting don't save.

I concur! I have not been able to get a stable install since 1.35! It just stalls and hangs on every menu and never loads all images. Maybe I am expecting to much from this client. I have been running Plex for several years now on a MacMini. And I have used many of the 3rd party clients. but this seems the be the most unstable one I ran in to so far. And before anyone starts accusing me of user error, just like the OP, everything worked fine in 1.35! So what is it that changed so drastically?

You should take a look at your logfiles: There might be some database errors if RasPlex is awfully slow by navigating between sections.
Try to delete the database via SSH: rm -r /storage/.plexht/userdata/Database

The RPi will never be able to keep up with a "modern" MacMini in respect to general computing power. It's designed to be a low power device with limited capabilities in respect to general computing power, RAM and IO performance.
The RPi is already able to outperform an MacMini (2006, Core Duo) as PlexHT client (in my experience). I think this is really impressive.
But there is still a lot of unused potential. (RasPlex would be probably better if there were at least some active developers)

I'm not talking about "slow" when browsing. I am talking about complete stalling and graphic freak outs when even just touching my remote. Like I said before none of this happens in 1.35 and I always completely wipe the SDCard when I install a new version.
Wiping the card and re-installing 1.35 always works. So why is that????
I am very well aware that this will never be as smooth as a MacMini but I was perfectly happy with the 1.35 release other then the lo-res graphics.
I though I was the only one with these problems but apparently not. I am not really expecting someone to fix it for me but I am just really curious what changed from 1.35 up?
a_wein, people get frustrated and sometimes the tone of the their communication comes through as such. I have vented on these forums in the past. Don't take it personal. You guys can do what very few can or desire to do in perfecting the software.
Basically, through trial and error discovered the versions beyond 1.35 have video playback issues and art presentation problems. A few weeks ago I noticed stutter on a few videos on 1.39 (or was it 1.38?). I basically scuttled Rasplex and tested Raspbmc and Plexbmc. Video is better but Plex integration I think not so good.
I went out and picked up the Ouya installed Plex from the Ouya store. took it back. Bought a Co-star installed Google Plex and Serenity. Took it back. Bought the Sony GS7 and installed Sony Plex, took it back. At this time Plex for Android is a total bust. Audio sync issues, crashes, problems playing certain videos, and the pathetic looking blown up phone app UI Keplar on the Ouya. It's stunning that this sub par version of Plex is even being sold for hard earned $$$.
But, version 1.35 of Rasplex (wired) plays everything just like PHT on the PC. The only real issue is the slowness getting around. Here's something really, really positive though. pecinko just released the latest version of Amber and it looks and feels really good on the Ras. My request to add an option to get rid of on deck and replace with a slide show of fanart context sensitive to the session that has the focus he implemented. Really cool.
I'm not glad with RasPlex performance and some features too. It's just not easy to improve this without more developers working on this.
The best small Plex client out there is probably an AppleTV running PlexConnect right now. But Apple may decide to prohibit the highjacking of their Trailer app with future software releases... - Thus there is definitely a need for an open alternative.
It would be great to get RasPlex that smooth and shiny but it doesn't look like this will happen any time soon... sadly.

Background images (fanart) will always bring RPi to it's knees - PlexConnect is showing labels and covers only.
The way home page skinning stuff is handled in Plex is problematic even for the more powerful devices (I'm on Mac mini), so there's probably some room for improvements there.
Disclaimer - I don't have a RPi so above comments are just from my skinning experience.
I dont wish to make out like I'm 'complaining', but I'd like to chime in and state that I also rolled back to 1.35 weeks ago after trying every single build right upto 2.1.
Please understand, for some reason 1.35 works well, and since then each and every build freaks out and doesnt work correctly.
I too have wiped SD each time and read just about every thread here to try this, or that, or flush this or try something else.
Eventually I went back to 1.35, don't care about the slow UI, and I'll happily keep trying each build until there is another 'stable' release.
Again, not complaining, but there is something wrong past 1.35.
It seems that this project is somewhat at a dead end. The dev's have all but disappeared. I am not complaining but this is what you get with open source development. Someone tinkers to get it working for their own needs and thats it. If it works for you, fine. If it doesn't move on it will not get fixed!

You get what you pay for B)
I`m sure you can volunteer as a developer and use your spare time working on problems that may or may not be related to the software.
I have setup +10 pi`s with rasplex ver 0.2.2 and all working great. Bad power supply and wifi dongle is mostly the reason for problems.

I use a wired setup so no WiFi problems. So you are telling me that version 1.35 works fine with bad power supplies but any version after that doesn't !?

I just told you that the software works fine for most people, and that the most frequent problems i have encountered were because of wifi or power supply.
i`ve been using rasplex since 0.1.35 and 0.1.37, 0.2.0, 0.2.1 and 0.2.2 works great with both wired and wifi on my pi.
have you tried formatting and overwriting your sd card a few times before installing rasplex again?
i hesitate to throw fuel on this fire. my personal experience is that rasplex 0.2.2 works fine with a large library (7 to) and several sections (4). most of my issues revolve around the stutter of files with dts or high bit-rate files. i overclock and i modified the ondemand governor parameters to get around the stutter in adittion to re-encoding my files with ac3 audio.
however, i only have my personal experience to go. if a large number of users are having problems, then there is probably something that needs fixing. it seems at the least that it is not working for some people...
i am more a power-user than developer, but i stand ready to help if i can.
like many, i look forward to the next version and a long life for rasplex.
