Force plex to use quick sync instead of NVENC

Hi,

I am running 1.9.7.4460 and am trying to use Hardware Transcoding. I am running into an issue though.

I have installed a separate Nvidia 1030 GT card for 4K but still want o use Intel Quick Sync for Plex transcoding as NVENC is not supported on my Nvidia card.

When I try to transcode though I hit an issue whereby Plex will use my 1030 GT to decode the video stream and then revert to software for encoding.

I have ensured that QSV is enabled and I can use it flawlessly in handbrake. Is there any way to force plex to use QSV instead on Nvidia?

I believe back when HW transcoding was in preview it was said that if you set your Intel GPU as primary in your bios then it would work… But I’m not in that situation so I don’t know.

It’s quite weird really. It would work with my i7 3770 when paired with the Nvidia GT 1030. The 1030 would decode the video but the encode was done in software.

I have since upgraded to a i7 8700K coffee lake CPU and now it works flawlessly.

Thats because the 1030 doesn’t have HEVC encoding capabilities (only decoding) which was still more than your 3770 had.
But now your Coffee Lake has both encoding and decoding capabilities (jealous)
