Forced sub are not shown by default

I have noticed that forced subtitles are not shown on the AppleTV.

Does that work for anyone?

In the browser interface, is the forced subtitle track selected? Typically, forced tracks will be automatically selected when you add the movie to the server if you don’t do anything, but if you unselect the track or select another track for that movie at the browser interface, other players will use that selection.

It was working fine for me some days ago with the last movie I watched that got forced subtitles
 (Apple TV 4K, 2nd gen)

you also need preferred language selected. they are forced when the same language as audio

if you ever manually change the track on a given media item it will keep that choice for you across apps.

  1. go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account
  2. scroll down to “Audio & Subtitle Settings” - Edit
  3. tick the checkbox “Automatically select audio and subtitle tracks”
  4. Set audio language
  5. set subtitle language (must be the same as audio for the feature to work correctly)
  6. set AUTO-SELECT SUBTITLE MODE to “Shown with foreign audio”
  7. save changes

Keep in mind that these settings are stored separately for each user account.

Thank you all, that seems to work.

btw since when does plex not recognise the subs/ directory inside the item directory anymore?
I could swear that worked a few years back.

It never supported that.

I swear to Thor it worked and subzero put subs there. ¯\(ツ)/¯

Anyhow the forced sub issue seems to be resolved. The issue was the ‘auto-select subtitle mode’ as far as I can tell.

Thanks again and have a nice weekend!

Subzero is a 3rd party Plugin and doesn’t work with the new metadata agents.

Ah, new agents. That explains it. Thanks.
