Interesting idea. I played around with it a little. It seems that opacity applies to foreground and background alike, so if the text color is near the underlying color, opacity doesn’t fix it.

Here’s a screenshot showing Plexhilarator’s and your signatures, using the settings you suggested:
It’s better for his than yours, but if somebody else has theirs closer to #cecece, they’ll be lost. I don’t think there’s a way to do it without potentially affecting someone, unless I can just force both colors.
Alright I’m in the process of converging my skin with @MovieFan.Plex’s skin to get what, in my mind, is the best of both worlds.
Let me know when we can install.

It’s excellent… only see one problem:
Cannot see any text on the Notification Preference page until you hover on one.
Everything else looks great… including my Sig.
I’ll go fix that right now. I’m not done with the main page sidebar either, not 100% sure what to do with it. I’d like to write a userscript and just shove the dumb thing into a hamburger menu. We’ll see. What I’d like to do next is figure out how to show unread posts the old way. This will likely involve a user script of some sort. Actually… let me see what I can do with CSS.

Hey guys, I got highlighted unread threads working 
(it only works on category pages, not the main page. That’s my next step.) No I lied I’ve got it working on both. Updating my script on userstyles shortly.
I marked the “New Forums” category as read.
Looks great, but could I ask for a little more contrast between read and un-read?
My old eyes can barely see the difference.
Give it another shot. Right now I’m just setting opacity on the background. I’ll be coming up with a more clever solution later.

I’ve got my latest bits of polish uploaded to userstyles.org. I plan tomorrow morning to continue polishing up and then seeing where I’m at. Phase two, the userscript edition, will potentially take place next week. After I’ve used this skin for a few days I’ll determine if I really think more needs to be done.
EDIT: Found another issue on the new post screen. I’ll fix it tomorrow, it’s nearly 2 A.M. here and I need to go to bed. Also if anyone has any requests/feedback let me know.
Updated my style.
- Removed some Orange
- Search Box now off-white to match other areas
- Read threads and Categories are now grey, Orange when there is something new

Yours looks excellent too but I am struggling to read the orange text on the grey background.
And also just noticed when I preview my post there is loads of grey text on grey background (second picture)
