“French Canadian” language is missing in plex account default audio option

Server Version#: 1.41.1.9057
Player Version#: latest

In the audio & subtitle preferences section of the Plex account, there is a choice of audio track in French only, but no choice for Canadian French.

This is a pity, as it forces us to correct the French (France) track each time to choose French (Canada).

Would it be possible to correct this?

In fact, it would be a good idea to make it so that if, for example, I have set French (Canada) as my preference, but the audio available is only French (France) or English. Then French (France) is chosen as the backup option.

Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

I have submitted the request to add Canadian French to the list of languages.

Hello, yes the same but the other way as a French :laughing:. If this choice is added. if “Français” set but only French (canadian) present then French (canadian) is chosen as the backup option.

Here’s the question

Are you a French Canadian – or – a Canada Frenchman ?

Careful of the noun.

That’s why it’s Canadian French.
Canadian dialect of French

:slight_smile:

( It can also be English and American English – LOL )

Engineering will know how to add the text to the server :sunglasses:

You’re right sir !

As a French French i was too French centrist. I pay tribute to the Canadian French in the right order.

ALL:

I discussed this with the Engineering team today in our weekly meeting.

Here’s the status:

  1. IF there is content which has different audio tracks for French (France) and French (Canada)

  2. Then the identifier can be added.

This is the same argument as can be made for English (US) and English (UK)

  1. We must be careful and specific when differentiating Audio vs Subtitles.

If anyone can show me produced content (movies/series) which differentiate between the two, I will gladly take this back to Engineering and champion it.

Hi, to answer the question. Indeed, they exist two different audio track but 3 way to name french track. This information is indicated in the “Description” information of each audio track

VFF = french (France)
VFQ = french (Canada)
VFI = french (International, when this option is selected, it means that only one French version exists for this film. It seems that when using this option, the track language is indicated as “Français” but there is no reference to VFF or VFQ in the audio track description. )

For example:

Does this answer your questions?

If necessary, simply let me know what additional information you need and I’ll be happy to help.
Thank you

@ElricX

This is fantastic! Thank you!

I’m copying your info directly into the ticket and linking this post.
Please don’t delete it.

Please keep this alive, an option to chose or prefered french but still use other french track if not available would be so great. I have issue with a lot of Anime defaulting to Japanese when VFQ not available on the audio track.

Also if you want more example, almost all Disney films has a VFF and VFQ track, even the first Pokemon season has the same people do a VFQ with english pokemon names even if the VFF exist with French names since only the US game version was available in Quebec back in the 90s.

This is really a thing and can be very painful because it can take some time before we discover we are not listening to the right track.

Hello, maybe this information will give you infos on a mkv container and how it differenciate the the different track languages. The tool to get and modify the info is : MKVToolNix and it’s free.

It is not shown in the picture but if the french language is uncertain instead of fr-CA or fr-FR il will be fr only. Most of the time «fr» will mean fr-FR but not all the time unfortunately.

Hope it will help you ! Have a nice day !

+1 for me, I want this feature to be available soon! Like @ChuckPa said, English (US) and English (UK) is the same struggle as French (FR) and French (CA). So everytime we select “French” as preferred audio language in setting, it’s always select French (FR) in first so we always need to change audio for every media.

So having French Canadian choice will be so a great thing for us!

The ticket for this was created some time ago.

The work did get scheduled.

As I see it now, it is being worked on.

They are adding / upgrading to support both.
They have to support both in all facets of Plex.tv.

From the notes: I see “VFF” and “VFQ” .

Even when French Canadian is selected (I tried directly in the Database), the first audio track of the file is always the one selected.
