If plugins are to be cut, I agree that this is a feature I consider vital. I’ve been using Trakt for over five years at this point, and I need an integrated media library that supports that. +1
Yes please add either trakt integration or some way of maintaining watched beyond a single server. What would be really nice would be a watched counter. So movie A has been watched 57 times.
Do you need to sync more than one user?
Do you also use trakt outside of Plex?
If the answer is no and you simply want to sync watched status between servers on a single account then plex-sync works great whilst webhooks can push the watched status to trakt (but not necessary.)
Totally agree but can be picked up in Tautulli if I recall. Not a perfect solution but a solution all the same in the hope that native integration comes.

Just wanted to chime in my +1(/2c) for deep Trakt integration, particularly since the sunsetting of plugin support.
A method that I (from a quick skim) didn’t see mentioned yet here is Plex’s webhooks support (plex pass only)
Webhooks are configured under Account settings in Plex Web App (the Account item under the top right user menu), and are tied to a specific user. Servers receive webhooks for the user who is signed into the server, as well as webhooks for shared users. In this way, your webhooks “travel” with you, so regardless of the server you’re playing content from (as long as it’s running v1.3.4 or newer), the webhooks will be hit.
This snippet makes it sound like it would be an even better experience than the current plugin, as I believe (may be mistaken) that things I watch on a friends server that has been shared with me won’t currently be scrobbled.
There are webhook events for:
- media.play
- media.pause
- media.resume
- media.stop
- media.scrobble (scrobbles if >90% progress)
- media.rate
Which would map REALLY nicely to Trakt’s API:
- start
- pause
- stop (scrobbles if >80% progress)
This would be my ‘ideal’ method, as it seems the most direct connection.
I haven’t actually tried this personally, but it seems there may already projects out there that implement this method, eg.
- GitHub - XanderStrike/goplaxt: Scrobble Plex plays to Trakt with ease! (which even seems to have an existing hosted method, if you’re ok with the potential that your data may be logged in this way)
The other alternative I like (that has been floated in this thread [1, 2]) is in existing projects adding support for this, eg Tautulli:

And in a ‘pipe dream’ type scenario… I would actually be super into a buyout/merger between Plex/Trakt, I feel like they would be super complimentary to each other, and I love seeing services I really like empower each other:
It really doesn’t need anything that extreme.
Emby and Kodi offer the ultimate Trakt experience so there’s no reason that Plex can’t too.
It simply needs someone high up in the Plex eco system to actually think it’s worth implementing.
Personally I still think there’s a far higher chance of it happening in Tautulli.

What you consider a pipedream or any kind of dream sounds like an absolute nightmare to me personally.
The whole concept of any company buying out another service that makes up a tiny fraction of users of that service is really scary.
But like I said… each to their own.
I suspect that scenario would be the end of Trakt usage for anything other than Plex.
I use Trakt with Plex, Kodi and Emby.

A native track support would be a really great feature.
The current 2rd party plugin seems to work, however it is kinda buggy and not really stable.
Mostly because of 1. the Plugin API of Plex is not longer supported. 2. The plugin API wasn’t really made for that use case.
+1 also. Now that you can’t open the plug in to do manual syncs.
+1 I add another vote to this request. It is incredible that plex is not supporting this feature. I used a lot sync functionalities to restore a plex installation and now I’m in the same position : plex library for tv series has been corrupted and no way to restore using plex full pull since it is not possible to trigger it anymore using web interface.
It is very disappointing.
+1 need a way to sync what I have watched to Plex. Only being able to sync what I’m watching is not that helpful as watch things on multiple platforms. Also if I have to do a clean server install all watched history is lost.

Trakt has a webhook for Plex now.
FWIW: It appears the the “WebHook” for Plex works. I am in the process of testing for full functionality.
My sever is running on my Shield TV and I had to jump through no hoops at all to get it configured. That is no “rooting” or other “tricks” to get it working. I am using it with everything configured as default. I will report back after testing for a while.
