Many Roku apps, such as YouTube, support Unicode text and can render Arabic text without problem. Plex app on Roku on the other hand does not support Arabic Unicode subtitles. Whenever I enable an Arabic subtitle, the app switches to transcoding mode and the Plex server starts burning the subtitle on video. This puts lots of load on the server and also degrades the video quality.
I really wish that Plex enhances its Roku app and add full support for Unicode languages, including right-to-left (RTL), shaping and mirroring. All these features can easily be enabled in the source code by just adding the appropriate libraries.
