Is this being looked developed at all?
Itās getting really old having to wait 15 - 20 secs between tracks.
bump - itās unacceptable that this isnāt any better. One of the pride and joys of plex users is probably the fact that people use their desktop as primary media consumption device. Sure I can use my phone, or tablet, but using my desktop at work means I can gracefully transition from bumping a mixtape, to taking a skype call.
+1
Bump, please add this.
Bump, it would also be great to get an update for Plexamp.
Bump -
Does Chromeās audio stack actually support this? In the native apps Plex can code their own support for gapless, but in a browser youāre limited what the HTML5 engine will do.
Deezer, spotify and Emby all support gapless in chrome.
Another +1. I am using Chrome or the Plex client, which I assume is based on the same engine, and the lack of gapless is one of the most glaring issues of the whole system.
Hi, I am new here and have been putting Plex (server & clients) through its paces. So far, it meets or exceeds all of my needs and expectations except for the lack of gapless playback on browser client. I remember complaining about this in the early days of iTunes & iPod Classic, which Apple eventually fixed, but this is 2020 man (well, almost)!. Much of the music I listen to is originally gapless between tracksāitās too jarring listening to these sort of albums with the gaps!
So, yes, this is my #1 feature request for browser based client! Seems like it has been on the tbd list for quite awhile. There must be a technical challenge here.
P.S. I tried out the iOS Plex on the iPad and it seems to be gapless. PlexAmp on my PC still is a little glitchy between tracks.
Gapless has been on the wishlist of many folk for a very long time now. Iām waiting for plex to fix gapless, add a real tv guide on android/xbox and fix the buffering lockup bug on xbox one playback. Until that lot happens, iām using emby, although I prefer plex, I canāt watch live tv without a tv guide or listen to music without gapless. These 2 are just dealbreakers. Winamp had gapless in the 90ās. Every digital tv ever made has a tv guide, not plex though lol.
Bumpy
That sucks about xbox one for sure! Android mobile seems to have the full fleshed tv guide and gapless playback just like iOS, the best I can tell. My dilemma is I donāt seem to have a Plex gapless player option available for windows or linux (of all things!). The web app doesnāt have it (I think the html5 complicates that across platforms and browsers) nor does the windows-based Plex app have gaplessāand there is no dedicated linux-based app for Plex yet either. I will stick with plex for awhile and see what comes about. I havenāt checked to see if Kodi does gapless, but the whole ideas is a slick, centralized, single media center for the fam. I donāt mind using mix & match for media (VLC , Kodi, iTunes in wine etc.), but everyone else gets frustrated cause it gets complicated when you just want to chill to your favorite media content and have a consistent experience %^\
Your statement is accurate, gapless is not available for Windows or browsers. The only way to get gapless while on a windows device would be to use Plexamp. However, Iāve found Plexamp to be buggy and it has not been updated in over a year.
If they can implement gapless playback on the web browser, Windows or make Plexamp more robust that would solve this issue for many Plex users.
Yeah, I tried Plexamp and there is a very noticeable delay between tracks and the last version is pretty old (and feels pretty experimental) like you said. Unfortunately, our main home entertainment center, including the sound system, runs on Ubuntu linux (or optionally windows).
Gapless (aka seamless) playback certainly appears to be possible with a modern html5 browser. I am perfectly happy with a good Plex web client for Linux and Windows desktops rather than an app. Besides, the apps for iOS and Android mobile seem to have true gapless, and Iām generally app adverse unless itās absolutely necessary.
Of course, this article also notes that āedge cases aboundā when considering use in production, so Iām sure there are numerous complications too. I donāt knowāthis is out of my leagueābut itās been nagging me and Iām learning stuff
I am certain it is possible, as almost every other web client (Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music) can gaplessely play albums. In my opinion the web client should be of higher priority for music since the web client can be used on most devices.
Iāve only heard true Plex gapless playback on mobile apps so far. We arenāt running our home media center on a mobile device. In fact, we are migrating incrementally to Linux on all our PCs and laptops. I guess SOL
Thought Iād give Tidal a try with the free trial. Still huge gaps between what should be gapless tracks using the web app even though plex.tv Tidal advertises gapless (previously, Iād only used my personal music library). Between the gaps (and random network errors) and terrible search functionality of Plex with Tidal, I think Iāve concluded my trail after about an hour of testing. Iām really trying to give Plex a chance here, because I enjoy the UI and design concept, it works okay as a TV/DVR & movie player, but it just isnāt there yet for Linux users who want gapless playback at their home media center. Kodi, on the other hand, seems to be virtually gapless but I hate its UI. Cāest la vie
Any updates on this? Would love to see this feature. Especially annoying on DJ Mix albums for what you Americans call āEDMā
