First I wanted to thank everyone involved in Plex. What a great application! Thank you.
I'm not sure if this is in the right area but wanted to give some feedback / feature requests. Some of these might be a little over the top but I wanted to just throw them out there just in case it's doable or that it might get some ideas flowing.
- Would like to see the media icons more distinctive. The current setup is fine for one section in each category but if there are multiple "Home Movie" sections, for example, it can get a little confusing. If it's possible have each section create a random image generated from some of the media within each group and/or allow us to upload a different image for each section. Something say from the Edit or Add menu (where we select the directory for media) would work well.
- The name of each section under the icon. Helps with many sections (same as above).
- Unless I am missing something and this is already possible, the ability to edit category info for each media file. Think MP3 tags. This would allow one to group media by categories and view only those "types" of media. Today I might just feel like action packed, kick ass movies. Tomorrow I might only want to watch sappy love stories. Going into those categories would filter out the rest.
- Playlist function(s)? I was VERY happy to see the "continious play" ability where media plays one after the other but what would be fantastic is the ability to create playlists. There are various ways I can see this working.
- The first is a manually created and ordered playlist.
- The second is a auto generated playlist but that remains static after creation (or could be manually ordered after creation?).
- The third is an auto playlist that generates upon each visit. In other words when one enters the section it generates a playlist from selected sections on every visit. The lineup changes each time.
A checkbox list of sections and / or seasons and / or individual media files, etc for each playlist would make it fairly straight forward for the end user. That way one could create a playlist for "TV" and another for "Movies" and another for "Random" and another for random music (again from selected categories), etc or whatever.
- Music playback while still having the ability to navigate other media or... .
- ... the web. It might sound weird but what about a web browser?
- Internet radio stations?
- Live channels? If Plex cannot give a pre-selected lineup of live streaming web shows then perhaps just the ability for us to add our own URL's for the streams? Whether they be from individual cable websites or other live streaming sites?
- TV Card capability? Streaming from the card as apposed to streaming from a hard drive.
- Streaming security cam for "security"? :)
- Resizable video playback in the web version. On a larger screen it looks good but on slightly smaller displays the image over fills the screen and one has to scroll up and down to see the whole image.
- Themes? Especially for devices such as Roku.
- What about an interface (not web) so we can simply hook a computers directly to our TV's and interface that way instead of using other devices (like the Roku which I love but still)?
- Edit: Something I forgot about is on the fly 3D conversion? I suspect Anaglyph would be easiest to implement as apposed to polarized. It's also very cheap on the end user.
