Hello,
I was wondering how exactly the scanner recognizes TV Shows/Episodes.
I was trying Plex out today but I only hat one episode of Big Bang Theory available. I thought, I could copy past that file and rename it to be episodes 2,3 etc.
So I could see what Plex would look like when there is a TV Show with more than one episode.
I also set up a movies library in which I copied a copy of afore mentioned file but I would rename it “Shrek”.
Now, the scanner was doing his job and when ot finished, I checked the results and I saw, that the TV Show was recognized correctly, but there was only one episode.
On the movies page, there was a movie, but it wasn’t Shrek but still “Big Bang Theory”.
So, my question is, how did the scanner know that the three tv show episodes were really one and the same. Even though their names were “Big Bang Theory.S03E01”, “Big Bang Theory.S03E02” and “Big Bang Theory.S03E03”?
I thought the scanner would use “just” the filename for its search. Because the Wiki specifically states what the naming convention should be like for maximum results.
Does someone know how the scanner works?
It does compare hash values, so you can’t use the same file as different things. It’s a pain for testing, but better in a real-use sense.
Awesome, thank you. That was the kind of answer I was looking for. The funny thing is, the "movie", I renamed "145 Shrek.avi" got an alternate result I could change with the "correction" button. The other result the scanner found was "Shrek 2".
I htought it was funny, that the scanner found another thing based on the filename but it wasn't the right movie. I know that I will have problems with the filenames as that name will not result in good scan results.
I have nfo files for all movies that I currently use with another application to get correct results. I admit, I haven't searched for this but is there a way that Plex would also use alternate methods to search for results? Or is it "just" the name of the file that influences the results?
There is a nfo metadata agent you can use to read in xbmc-style nfo files. In general, Plex uses mp4 tags and file names to figure out a match.
Awesome, thank you.
