Same issue here as well, been stuck on the same movie now for a few weeks
Add another user with this issue. 10-bit HEVC movie. Been at it for a week or so now.
Could someone from Plex at least acknowledge this issue? I’ll do anything to assist finding a solution. Post logs, take screenshots, send nudes, I DON’T CARE. I’m offering whatever assistance I can give to help resolve this!
Plex Version 1.16.4.1469, still happening that it spins on a majority of x265 10bit content. Currently my workaround is that when I add media I will stop the plex server, start it, then I can click analyze on the newly added tv or movies. This is a pain as analyze on an entire TV season does nothing so I have to click analyze on individual episodes. Thumbnails are processed properly but then during the nightly maintenance period it goes back to spinning on the same files it gets stuck on. Stuck spinning again until I stop/start from the command line because I’m too stubborn to turn said broken feature off. When I have time I plan to try a driver update but can’t say I’m hopeful that will have any effect.
same issue here, I kept seeing the icon spinning and everytime it is on GOT S03E02 have restarted docker many times it goes away then comes back. Mine is also HVEC 10bit I am trying to replace it with a different file to see if it helps.

I have the exact same thing it get stuck on that episode of GOT.
for now I exit plex server then run it again to scan files so other shows get scanned first but that is depending on luck coz eventually will have a show that starts after got and wont be able to get it done due to this stupid issue and it is old issue they need to have option to select some files/episodes to ignore in generating thumbnail preview while the rest of the library do it normal

it is annoying for many reasons . and for some reason it appears to be with GOT version that we all share but i read some others who got it with other contents
BUMP – Same problem for me. No CPU or disk utilization, but PMS thinks it is making thumbnails…
VIDEO – 1080p (HEVC Main 10)
AUDIO – English (HE-AAC 5.1)
For those still having issues are you on the most recent version? After updating my OS, drivers, and plex to the latest releases I have not seen this issue reappear in the last month for 10 bit HEVC files. (Specifically, this went away once I installed version 1.17 with the new transcoder)
I found myself with the same issue, however it was a .ts file/DVR recording
I have the same issue with a couple anime episodes and 3/1100 movies. I was able to fix the anime episodes by grabbing another release for the shows/eps. I believe that something is physically wrong with the episode or movie files, and not plex. Moving the files from plex and cleaning bundles/trash did not fix the issue btw.
