My first TV will arrive soon and I want to know what would be best as the OpenPHT client. I have a Q1900 board running my NAS, with 4GB memory, or I have a GTX 1080 gaming PC.
Is there any benefit of running the player from the high end rig or will the low power NAS do fine? I don’t transcode media just directly stream it.
I would prefer to use the NAS PC since it’s on 24-7.
Thanks
So, do you have a separate server or are you asking about running the server and Open PHT client on the same system? If you’re just looking for a PHT client and worried about 24/7 uptime, I’d look at the ODroid or Wetek options for a cheap, energy sipper.
Agreed, Odroid or RPi3 are great options for low cost, low energy players that can handle nearly all codecs (especially the Odroid).
Note that, Ameridroid, the USA/Canada retailer for Odroid, is waiting on additional DRAM shipments before shipping. Expected to resume in late March (but that was pushed back from mid-March).
