Give Media Priority Over Servers - "Unified Sections"

This may have been suggested before, but after a quick search I couldn't find it.

I would like to see the content take precedence over what servers you are connected to. By that I mean, I would like to see Plex take my local server, and any shared servers and distill them into a couple combined main menu options like "Movies" and "TV". Entering either of those allows me to select some content for me to watch regardless of what server is hosting it.

  • If the video is hosted on a shared server, stream it
  • if it's hosted locally, play it from that server
  • If both the local server, and a remote server have the same video, pop up a selection box with the locally hosted file as the default (like how multiple copies are handled now)

When I sit down to use Plex I am doing so because I want to watch something, not because I want to see what my friend's server has available. Granted, there are times that I want to look at a specific server, so perhaps there should be a "Servers" menu item that lists the available servers, any local servers you may have running along with remote servers, and then once you select a server you can browse just it's content like you do currently. But again, I feel that most people are using Plex Client to watch something, and making content the UI's first priority would help users achieve their goals easier.

Sounds like a solid option. One that would likely encourage me to leverage my friends libraries more often than I do now, which is virtually never.

(I'm not certain if my friends have bandwidth caps, and so I generally approach streaming from shared servers as a last-resort option.)
