‘er indoors’ switched on TV and Roku Streambar to watch latest episode of her serial
“There is something wrong with Plex” she said
After ten minutes of trying to find the correct episode of the correct serial in the correct library on the correct server… I gave up.
I googled ‘Plex’ with ‘new UI’ and found that Plex had indeed screwed with everyone’s systems, without asking permission, and the internet was ablaze with complaints
This was around 22:00
By around 22:15 I had completely removed all semblance of Plex from my both my Microsoft and Linux servers and removed the Plex apps from all of our Rokus and other devices
By around 22:40 I had installed Jellyfin on both the servers, pointed them at my various libraries and loaded the Jellyfin app onto all devices
At 22:41 'er indoors picked up the Streambar remote, selected Jellyfin, selected “Shows”, selected her show, selected the episode she wanted and settled on the sofa watching her serial.
Peaceful household again
BTW. The spellchecker on this Plex forum doesn’t recognise the word Plex
I dread having to update all the metadata, which is why I haven’t switched. I organize a lot of my library in unique ways, like grouping all my looney toons cartoons into “seasons” based around characters - having to redo all the titles is not something I’m looking forward to. But the Plex team seem determined to force me to Jellyfin.
I feel your pain. Mine is quite simple . I have a folder of ‘my new films‘, in which, when watched, I simply move the file to the ‘watched’ folder. There is a library of ‘my new series’ etc etc- Can you not just have a folder of, say, “Daffy”, “Porky” and “Bugs” etc, each as a separate Jellyfin library ? Or is it more complicated than that?
I downloaded and installed Jellyfin on my Mac, clicked on it, and nothing happens? I have no clue why, I tried to trash the app and reinstall, and it would not let me trash it because the app was open. So I guess Jellyfin will not work for me.
I hate the Roku update too. And today the Xbox app stopped working. It prompts me to select a user then spins forever. Updated, rebooted, logged in out, nothing works.
Tonight I officially started the migration to Jellyfin on unraid. Being trolled earlier this year by the creator of plex when I was sharing constructive feedback really told me they could care less about users.
No it’s not as great as Plex, but it’s good enough, and they won’t screw you over. You can even connect inside your house when the internet goes down without some previously configured setting! Good enough for me.
