Google can add a plex service to Google Home

+1 from another Plex Pass holder!

another ++

OMG, i would like to see this too, but I’m not sure the ire directed at plex is totally fair. they can only take advantage of what Google is exposing via API, etc. i made a conscious decision years ago to go down the Google path… speakers, wifi, devices, etc… i’ve regretted that decision several times: their EOSL of google music and forcing me to use YT may well be the biggest. Additionally, if you look at the integration between Alexa and Plex, it becomes apparent that this may not be a Plex thing… and it wouldn’t be the first time Google less than impressed (slate tablet, y’all). Additionally, i’d like to point out that Plex has so many amazing features and while there are some struggles with the app, the overall cost for a lifetime pass is very small in the scheme of things… And these guys deserve our support. Yeah, they’re rolling out some stuff no one wants or would likely use, but they need to pay the bills too and i’m sure Tidal is kicking back some money to help that happen. so, let’s continue to push for this, but also we may need to find that it isn’t Plex we need to kick to the curb, but Google itself.

That being said, i’d still like to see some movement here or at least some communication from Plex as to why it cannot provide this. if it’s a google thing, then tell us. if it’s a lack of pulling this from the backlog, then i think they need some more focus here.

just my rusty ol’ two cents

my daughter just happens to have an echo dot in her room. it literally took me less than5 minutes to get it working with Plex and it has what i’d term a pretty strong voice integration. i can play artists, playlists, albums, etc. this makes me even more frustrated that the same, regardless of whether it’s on Plex or Google, that this isn’t a thing on Google home/assistant. maybe it’s time to let go of Google.

Been almost a year since I posted here. AND… nothing.

@ruuk @tobiashieta @Moussa @PlexInfo wanna chime in?

@elan Look bud, if you don’t answer us you are about to see a mass exodus to Emby.

We have been asking for this or an answer to this for YEARS and ya’ll keep ignoring us.

It’s honestly quite amazing how you release ■■■■ like Plex Arcade, but wont spend a few days hammering out a heavily requested feature.

edit: a threat? seriously? lmfao ok bud

Welcome to plex. They don’t give a crap. I am sure everyone is working on features nobody has asked for instead, which will be added, and yet not work correctly…

i don’t respond to threats :grimacing:

(the answer hasn’t changed, unfortunately.)

Not all of us are as dramatic. I love Plex and do appreciate the work on it. I would ask that you please keep open the possibility should it becomes a viable option in the future.

That wasn’t a threat? And I’m sorry if it came off that way. We are just really tired of not getting an answer. An actual “threat” is absolutely not ok and not even close to what I implied. But go ahead and use that as an excuse to not answer us directly.

I think you You have clearly ignored a post that has nothing but overwhelming support for a feature everyone wants, but you can’t give us an ounce of respect to give a clear answer.

@skwor01 I’m not being dramatic. Clearly said if they don’t give us an answer (and this is combined with years of plex pass subs/lifetimers asking for multiple QOL fixes and enhancements to be met with stuff that makes no sense) people will end up leaving over lack of proper communication.

we absolutely will. every time we’ve looked into it, it hasn’t been feasible given what Google makes available to us, and how they integrate with other services.

Appreciate the reply
have been watching this thread for a while

And certainly would love integration with Google Home
In todays modern fast paced world things like google assistant helps immensely

Hopefully there will be a window soon that allows it (plex link to home) to be feasible.
Google seem to be opening up more and more lately “Fingers Crossed”

Why was emby and so many others able to do it then? I understand it will never be netflix quality (i hope it will though) but come on a basic “hey google, Plex big titted goths” shouldn’t be that difficult

nobody, and i repeat, nobody, should have to ever plex big-titted goths.

That’s not for you to decide. :open_mouth:

Hello,

Long time Plex Pass holder, and just wanted to add my vote to have Google assistant integration into Plex. I know we plex users have been asking for this feature now for years. Thanks Elan for the updates. Keep up the great work on plex and plexamp. I remember it working with Alexa, but have long since converted to the IMHO superior Google assistant.

Cheers

Another long time Plex user and Plex Pass subscriber. Please add this!!! Kind of hard to believe it isn’t already available. I’m my opinion, it should be at the top of the development list. Thanks!

@elan +1 on this as well (sorry… you must be getting bored of this topic now). I see Netflix etc. On the video integrations available for Google Assistant and it hurts as many of us really love Plex. What you have done and what you continue to do is amazing and powerful, but this is a logical next step integration to increase the power of the platform with respect to modern interaction. It would be amazing if you and the team could make this happen as it would be superb to be able to tell Google to play X on Plex on X device and have it just do it. It might be tough, but it’s worth the effort. What you guys do is great :+1:t2:

This would be cool I guess. However I don’t see the need to talk to my electronics. I still enjoy fondling them with my hands. Your remote misses you. Touch it.

I’d like this integration for music/Plexamp more than anything else…
