Google Home support would be awesome

I think in order to get this feature, we would have to add a module to the Plex Media Server that acts as a Google Cast sender and keeps up with Google Cast receivers. This means the feature would be for LAN use only unless someone out there can get creative, but I’d venture that most people will leave their Google Home assistance and Amazon Echo’s at home on the LAN anyway. Alexa does an okay job of playing Plex content, but it has to send to a Plex Media Player, and currently for me, that’s the OSX app, the Windows app, the Chrome web browser for OSX, and not the Chrome web browser for Windows, and not the Plex Home Theater app for OSX, and not the Plex app for Android. These gaps are likely to be fixed in updated app releases(minus PHT I think). In the mean time, I casted from Chrome web browser for OSX to my TV’s Chromecast, and had Alexa play whatever I wanted from my library, and Google Home assistant controlled playback.
Where I think most people have the wrong perception is in that they believe the Amazon Echo is doing all the heavy lifting of session establishment and control for Plex to stream content. Alexa is simply sending and receiving commands and data to your PMS under your account. Alexa doesn’t need to be on the same LAN as your PMS to do this. Alexa would have to be on the same LAN as your Chromecast device however and also do the heavy lifting of running a Google Cast sender app and automate the management of Google Cast receivers in order to start a Plex streaming session to your Chromecast device without an intermediary Plex media player. The same goes for Google Home assistant.

Definitely a must! Please add Google Home Support. I want to be able to cast to any Chromecast in my house using Google Home directly from Plex Media Server. We shouldn’t have to have an additional player running like we do for Alexa.
Voice control for Plex Cloud Server too! Not just for the normal app

I have been watching this google home app, and am very tempted to give this a go while waiting for main stream plex support. Seems to do much of what we are looking for https://forum.xda-developers.com/connected-home/google-home/meet-phlex-google-home-action-plex-t3574746
I am currently watching Plex via Samsung SmartHub, using a Harmony Companion Remote to control the theater system as well as navigating the Plex app. Google Home is now capable to control limited device commands thru Harmony. Most of the Harmony commands still needs a remote including the navigation of Plex app.
So, yes, we definitely need voice controlled navigation of Plex directly from Google Home.
Add my name to the list of people wanting Google Home integration.

Hey se2c make sure you like the first post on thread on page1by sethgregory thats how they vote for things to do next.
I cannot wait for this. This integration should also be an assistant music provider because I have all my music in Plex as well. Currently the only providers available are YouTube Red, Play Music, Spotify, and Pandora.

Glad to see the excitement for Google Home integration. It’s a planned feature, but not ready yet. Focus in this space has been on improving Alexa support, bringing additional functionality to that, with Google coming next.

I know the feeling. I don’t want to have to go through all of that just to make the Echo compatible with Chromecast. /sadpanda
