Google Photos / Takeout metadata

Hi all.

First post here. Hope I put it in the right place! Apologies if not.

I’m toying with the idea of using Plex to both view and backup our photos. I’ve been using Google Photos for years, and have downloaded all my photos and videos using Google Takeout. But Takeout creates a bunch of folders and .JSON files that aren’t really very usable in most places. The folders correspond to albums and the .JSON files are, I believe, the metadata.

My question is, if I dump all of these folders and files into my photo library, will Plex make sense of it all? i.e. Will it translate the folders into albums and re-associate all the metadata with the photos?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Glenn

Nope and nope.

Haha. Cool, thanks!

Much appreciated.

Yeah sorry. Those are probably exclusive to Google. Plex will organize your photos by folders. Albums in Plex are a different thing. They are more like favorites so you can place photos from different folders into these albums for quicker access. The metadata will be read form the file itself.

Gotcha. Thanks.
