GPU Transcoding - No Intel Quick Sync

I am running Plex as a virtual machine. I am running the server on E5-2680v2 cpu’s. However, it struggles on H.265 decoding. The cpu’s do no support intel quick sync. If I add an Nvidia NVENC card (P1000), will Plex be able to use that if I enable PCI passthrough at the hypervisor level?

I am surprised you are struggling. I built a box out of an old Intel SC2600 server board popped in two E5-2680V2 CPU’s and I have a benchmark of over 24,000. Easily handles 2 or 3 decodes at the same time.

I am not sure what happened the other night. My wife was watching something that was H.265 encoded. I added SRT (subtitles), and it was acting slow. However, after rebooting the Roku ultra box, it seems to be pulling in the H.265 natively. It seems that the roku box for some reason was forcing a transcode to h.264, when it shouldn’t have. I will continue to monitor. I am curious if I added a P400/600/1000 if that would help for the transcodes when using a an iPhone on the h.265 streams.
