I am not from netflix but as long as I’ve heard they use HEVC (grey bars happening on x265 codec - free version of hevc).
Where are you from that you think you know better than everyone?
A number of people are telling you that files are playing well in other apps and not in Plex. You think people are lying?
I’ve seen that thread you are linking to (its from January 2017(!) btw). Just because some user (as active as he may be) says its a system limitation, I’m not buying it. No “system limitation” is so selective about which apps its limiting and which it isn’t.
I don’t want to argue. I want things to work as they should. Right now Plex on Sony Bravia isn’t working as it should when it comes to 4K HDR. Other apps do. Its as simple as that.
But yes I agree Plex client doesn’t work on Sony android tv and Philips android tv the way it should.
I will be only happy if plex developers will fix all those major bugs. including grey bars, audio pass-through, buffering issue and etc.

Confirming this issue is occurring on a brand new, Sony smart TV running Android TV. Grey bars with 4K content and buffering issues / pixelation with said 4K content. Haven’t tested it on Kodi.

Try. but if you have buffering in PLEX you will have mega buffering in KODI because KODI does also transcoding in background: for example DTS to AC3.
Find PLEX version 6.12 and side load it for now until Devs fix the issue. (don’t for get to turn off auto update in play store in this case)
This is really annoying.
I have a 65" Sony KD-65X9000E, Android 7.0, running the plex app 7.0.3.5502 and just tried my first 4K movie on Plex and got these grey bars.
The grey bars are there if I play the movie in the native resolution 3840x1600, but if i convert it to 20Mbit 1080P, it puts black bars there.
Have you guys checked to see if your HDMI is on a limited bandwidth or full?
I know my 4k content looks different (greybars) when it is on the wrong setting. I have a Shield TV and a sony 980 (I think that’s it). If you go into the TV video settings it should be in there. Hope this helps!
They did respond, they said they can’t fix it because it’s broken on Sony’s end. There’s never going to be a Plex fix because they can’t fix it, only Sony can.
