Group Library by directors

I focus very much on directory and artists in my library. instead of film titles I would like to display my library by directors.

It would be great if this could be further customized to see all films group by actors, etc.

@mynona, I hope this helps. See pic for the section where you can adjust your library based on directors, actors, and several other options instead of All.

I know this and it is tedious to use. What I suggest is to have the database presented by directors same as for films.

not having a search field to pick one editor but see all movies visually presented by directors.

There are dozens of us! Dozens!!!
Seriously though, for cinephiles, this feature would be amazing.
TMDb already has pages for directors and actors, with headshots and bios. At the very least, Plex could add another rubric to the sorting options, so that when I search for a name, instead of just showing me titles from my own library, it would also load the person’s bio and pic!
But even better would be grouping films under directors, right in the Library view.

This is not the same feature & they even closed it.

The intention would be to see all movies organised by directors same as you have them displayed by year etc.

So closed my thread and added a vote to yours :wink:

here was my post:

I as wondering if there could be a way to browse by movie directors with name and picture (we click on a director and get the list of all his movies that are inside a library). Maybe could get displayed in there a list of their other movies available in other sections of Plex (like Discover or Movies & Shows).

Other ideas:
Could also do this with Actors
Display their films sorted by ratings

I just tried doing that for example I created a collection for all Hitchcock films.

I found 2 limitations doing this

  1. You have to create the collections for every director, so grouping automatically and browsing by actor or director could make sense
  2. I was not able to make a smart collection across different librarys (I have a Blu Ray library, DVD Library for example)

I came here to request this feature. The ability to filter is nice, but the thing that I’m really looking for is to be able to browse by director or actor. To my mind, the easiest way to make this work is to mimic the “folder” grouping option (currently, the only two options are “Movies” and “Folders”; under TV Shows, the current options are “TV Shows”, “Seasons”, “Episodes”, and “Folders”). Those lists could have “Directors” and “Actors” added to them, and Plex could pull down the same images it uses for the cast on each film’s page, just to make the interface a bit easier to navigate.

If I want to study a particular director or actor, it would be really helpful to be able to pick someone and then see all of that person’s works in chronological order (or alphabetically, etc).
