Hey everyone! Hoping for insight. I’ve never used the guest account, because I’ve never really had a need for it. Recently a friend asked about having access to my content after I was telling them about Plex. I don’t mind but would like to limit WHAT content is available. (Stuff like family photos, etc that wouldn’t be of interest anyway). Does the guest account actually work like this, where I, as the admin of the account would be able to set it up so that only specific libraries are available for viewing, etc. Ideally, my music and tv shows are the primary libraries of interest to be shared.
Another scenario. I’m at a friends house and I sign into my account but I don’t want to use my admin/main account, so I just click on the guest account. Would I then be able to see all the libraries I’ve allowed to be present in the guest account.
Finally, how do I set this all up if possible? I tried to search the forums, but I don’t know if I was typing in the wrong keywords but I couldn’t find anything that quite matched what I was looking for
The guest account is designed as a member of your “Plex Home”, e.g. allow guest to watch (selected) media from your server, using one of your devices, while visiting. It’s not a good idea to use this to generally share with friends.
If you want to share with a friend – just invite them as such and share libraries with them. With that, they’ll also have their own watch history, ratings etc.
Tip! : The “Guest” account is kind of a specialized Managed User. It can be useful if you want to let someone who comes over use Plex without affecting your regular account(s). A friend who stops by, the babysitter, or similar.
