h.265/HEVC support for Optimised Versions (and eventually Transcoding)

I’d love to see h.265 support for Optimised Versions and Live Transcoding. I realise that live transcoding hevc requires quite a beefy server even at ultrafast preset.

I have to do dialysis three times a week for 5h each at a local hospital. They have Wifi but their uplink is only 4 Mbps of which I can realistically use less than half. I get stutter free playback at 786kbps 480p when using live transcoding.

I’m currently working around the problem by transcoding all my shows and movies to 1Mbps 720p h.265 using ffmpeg and then use direct play on my laptop running Plex Media Player when I’m at the hospital. The difference in quality between 480p 786kbps h.264 and 720p 1 Mbps h.265 is massive.
Naturally the downside of this current approach is that I have to manage all files manually.

It’d be super nice to see not only hevc decoding but also hevc encoding support.

Would be nice to be able to specify which codec to use. Live h265 needs hardware assit, in theory the nvidea shield server could do this without too much effort, seeing as it already has hardware h264 encoding, and supports hardware decode of 265 at 60fps at 4k.
