Great news!! Could you please confirm that if I purchased and installing MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP — on my Qnap TVS-472XT, Emby will recognize it and utilize it without the need to install Emby on VM? Much apprecaited.
Also it seems you installed same Graphics Card I’m trying to purchase, so could you please advise its capabilities? Will I be able to transcode three movies at the same time with it? Considering the the processor already there in Qnap and its shared graphics card.
EMBY will push 4K with SRT, but with VOBSUB it stutters… I dont think it uses it fully.
And no need to use any containers… just load it from Qnap store.
3 x1080p is easy even without card.
What do you mean it is not using it fully? So still there is a problem with Emby, could you please elaborate more on the exact problem.
No I meant 4K HEVC Movies, not FHD ones.
I tried 4K HECK 78Mt…
Without GPU, it uses CPU 20-40%, no stutter…
With GPU, It uses CPU 100%, GPU 13%, and stutter…
How come?! So with GPU installed it got worse actually with Emby? Why?
This is NOT Emby support forums!
Please ask Q’s up here about Plex only, and use Emby’s support forums for Q’s related to them
Well, because we are suffering with Plex which doesn’t work properly with our Qnap NAS. So may be you can help us out here and offer a solution or work on upgrading and fixing Plex!
Sadly not, since I don’t have a graphical card
I get that. I will Hold on to my Plex, but propably run EMBY on side to get a feel.
I like Plex more and hopefully it gets GPU officially implemented to Qnap NAS.
Im kinda hoping someone with experience such combination to help us with Container Plex, because Someone has already made it work…
It seems that in few weeks nothing has happened. Im still running Emby on side abd HW transcoding works out of box. Still waiting for Plex team to implement this…
New 1.16.7.1574 fixed issue. NVIDIA is finally implemented and my 4K videos run smoothly on PLEX!
How did you get that? The latest one I can find is 1.16.6.1559 released Aug 23rd. Do you have a link?
You need PlexPASS
Thank you for that link, I got it and it’s fantastic! I’m finally seeing my P4000 get hammered!!! Much nicer seeing it run at 40% than my Ryzen 1700 running at 80%. This is the main reason I built this box. Thank you Plex for working on this!
I just downloaded the aforementioned version with plex pass but no change, still it struggles the exact way and movies stutter.
You mentioned running Plex in a Docker container. I am doing the same and was also facing issues with maxing out my QNAP CPU even though PMS was indicating H/W Decding. My QNAP has Intel decoder, but maybe there’s something of value here…
On the transcoding front, at the moment the fact that PMS is insisting on transcoding the live streams has become a little less important to me. I run PMS in a Docker container, and knew that the H/W decoder permissions had to be modified to give the container access to the decoder. I was changing those permissions in the container which eliminated the PMS log errors regarding H/W Decoding, but on each restart or update of the container, those permissions were lost. Yesterday I changed the permissions outside the container, hoping they would be more persistent. Not sure if that was the key, but watching Live TV this morning says it is transcoding, but PMS is only using 11% CPU versus the 80% that it was using previously. I’ve stopped and restarted the program several times wondering if it some sort of aberration, but the positive results continue.
I hope this helps.
Is it a must that we run Plex in a docker container for the new version to work well with Nvidia? I just installed it in a regular way and tested it… It didn’t work well as usual. In case a docker is a must then please share a tutorial on how to install docker. Thanks.
I wouldn’t think you have to run in a docker container, but I would expect the same permissions issues either way.
How to set permissions? I have googled it but found nothing about this. Thanks.
