Hardware advice p2000 + ryzen vs i9000k with quicksync

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

I am due to update my pc and am trying to future proof my machine. This will be used for some home video editing, Plex server, 3D printing and creation and usual home office word processing basics.

My last rig has been up for 6 years and apart from the odd switch of hdd I am unlikely to switch components.

I am interested in Plex quality and as much as I would like to direct stream 4K files would like the option need to potentially transcode them. I would say probably need to stream up to 8 streams at the most with at the push would be 1-2 4K direct stream and 6-7 1080p. I will be slowly be moving to hevc file currently using PS4 as a client for the main however will likely be using shield as the main 4K direct streamer.

So my options I am thinking Ryzen 3900k but then adding a second hand p2000 (if that is the best bet) or an i9900k utilising it’s quicksync (as the i9900k are evening priced I suppose I could add a p2000 if necessary). On the other hand the monos for the ryzen have the capability of pcei4.

Any suggestions on the the best way to go or other suggestions?

I have the 3900 X until bios melted it to the board LOL. I’m back on my i7 8700 and I use a GTX 1070. The reason why I use the GTX 1070 is once you mod the drivers you can set a cap to the amount you want transcoded, which I’ve never actually had to exceed. So I set my cap to 10 and then anything over that goes to my i7 to transcode. Compared to the P2000 has Unlimited trans codes and you can’t set a hard cap. I did like the P2000 when I had it. It really just depends on what you’re using the server for. I’m possibly thinking about upgrading to the I-9 or just waiting for the 3900 X to become a little more stable, which I think has already happened as I got the 3900 X when it first came out.

Also the P2000 doesn’t use that much power which is really nice. The 8 streams that are going to transcode wouldn’t max out the P2000 at all since their 1080p. My GTX 1070 was cheaper and actually uses about the same wattage but requires a power pin connector. Nice part about the 1070 as well as it has dual encode chips( NVENC) compared to the newer cards don’t have that. In my experience it helps a little bit with load.

Thank you would you go for an i9 or the ryzen ? Do you think and will stop the patch working
