I’m loving my RasPlex/PMS combo with my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B. However, I’m converting most of my library over to HEVC 10-bit encodes using Handbrake and x265. My server is capable of doing real-time transcoding of h.265 to h.264 1080p so the Pi can handle it but it strains my server to where it can only handle two simultaneous streams (with five kids I have seven TV’s in the house).
I know there’s no HW support for H.265 in any current Pi and waiting for an updated Pi could take years. Is there any other hardware platform out there with native H.265 10-bit decode support that doesn’t run Windows? I want something with the simplicity of RasPlex, not a Windows GUI needing a mouse to operate effectively.
Will any of the Intel compute sticks do this? Or anything else I can essentially plug into the HDMI port and not have to fiddle with?
The Odroid C2 specs are quite impressive! However your post was somewhat ambiguous about whether it runs pre-built OpenPHT setups like RasPlex or whether I must custom build it. I’m hoping to get identical ease of installation and setup as RasPlex on RPi 2B if at all possible.
You can use the embedded Intel build on a NUC or other PC. Also, don’t give up on Windows use. You can setup windows to auto open an application on startup so it boots just like an embedded build into OpenPHT. No mouse necessary. I use a Flirc with a Harmony 700 and it “Just Works”.
@Valdhor Although I haven’t settled on Plex yet (due to lack of live TV), I have a similar setup (Win10 with IRS5-01 IR receiver (which supports power-on) and a Harmony 700. Have you been able to code the Harmony for Netflix (and any other apps)? The Netflix UWP app is horrible, although I have found a 3rd-party app that will make it more remote friendly (which I haven’t tried yet).

To tell you the truth, with Plex I have no need to use Netflix.
I have programmed the Harmony as a standard Microsoft MCE remote for OpenPHT as well as a Samsung TV and my VSX-1021 AVR. All working great.
Yeah, not so much with movies (as they’re not the best but get surprised once in a while). But their original programming is very good, probably because they have a fat wallet to pay for the best talent. I recently read an article where a high level executive from one of the big TV studios kthink cable) told her boss that she was leaving for Netflix, and he was furious, saying they were the enemy.
But yeah, I agree with regards to movies. Hopefully that’ll change.
