I use RPi4 8GB Raspbian, running plex in a container. Simple transcode works pretty well, temperature tamed by a simple fan blowing on a heatsink.
Would be good to see it boosted by hardware transocing.
So, +1
One more vote to support RPI 4 HW decode/encode.
Any updates on this? Would love to see this feature!
Iām curious to hear any feedback from the Plex folks about how viable this is. I tried downloading the version of FFMPEG that Plex publishes and compiled it with the options required for hardware acceleration on the Pi and the build was successful. I can manually run ffmpeg but of course I canāt integrate it into Plex itself because it doesnāt pass the correct arguments on the command line.
But itās a positive sign that it builds as-is. In theory all weād need is some platform detection and extra command line flags within Plex itself, I think?
+1 to support RPI 4 HW decode/encode feature.
Waiting for it
+1 to support RPI 4 HW
+1 to support hardware decoding on the Pi 4.
Iām a Plex Pass user with 2x Pi 4s and had assumed it would be enabled reasonably soon after the Pi4 was released⦠almost 18 months ago. It seems like such a missed opportunity.
Would also like to see HW transcoding on arm devices. I use a RockPro64 4GB with OMV which works really well on my fiber setup so transcoding is not really activated but every once in a while a scenario arises that a transcode is required.

Would love to see hw transcoding work on rpi4
Hey fellow Plex users,
I have been following this thread and another one on the same subject for a few months now. Since some clients do not always support direct play, I am having huge CPU load issues because the hardware transcoding is not available on RPI 4. For the developers or the moderators that may read this, yes I know that it is hard to push such a feature without knowing exactly how much ROI you can expect, which may be important because of the ARM Licence, but I am still expecting this from Plex.
To the others, did anyone have any luck with any other software like Emby, Jellyfin, or something else ? I really donāt care if itās complex to setup, I can do it. I just need something that when installed correctly, will work correctly. Even with less cool features, but metadata scrapping like Plex does would be a huge plus too.
Iām also waiting for HW Transcoding support on pi4.
+1 from me too.
+1 dito ⦠really need it.
+1 I would for sure be rocking Pi 4 PMS if I had hardware transcoding support. This is something I expect as a paying customer of Plex pass, especially for such a popular and widely supported device as a Raspberry Pi 4.
+1 would be really great!

Would appreciate its implementation; otherwise Pi 4B+ PMS is flawless
