I’ve subscribed to Plex Pass in hopes of testing out the hardware transcoding. So far it is not working however.
PMS is version 1.13.0.5023 running on Windows Server 2016 with a GeForce GT 1030.
Client is Chrome, and I’m forcing transcoding to test right now. Transcoding speed is under 1x, and GPU usage is under 15% with no video decode usage.
Source file is x264 with a bitrate of 28.9 Mbps. Transcoding to 720p 4Mbps. The end goal is HEVC hardware transcoding if that is supported (unclear if it is).
I have debug logs available if needed.
Thanks!
Please provide the PMS logs showing the start of playback.
Is there a way to share them privately or strip out any personal data (filenames, usernames, etc.)?
You can PM the log to me.

You need a newer NVidia driver.
I’m using driver 397.64. Any ideas why it would be detecting the wrong version?

Doing some research it looks like perhaps the GT 1030 does not support nvenc which would be the problem.

That’s the file it’s looking at. Search your system for that file. If ti doesn’t exist, that would mean your system doesn’t support HD encoding.
Hello! Sorry to bring this topic back to life.
In the past days I have been struggling to make transcoding work but I don’t seem to get anywhere.
I am running windows server 2016 with latest updates as of now.
I have a supermicro A1sai 2750f motherboard, 16gb ram, os on an ssd connected on usb.
Gpu is a Quadro P400 brand new (I tested this on my pc and transcoding works)
I have tried many drivers, also latest quadro for win server 2016.
When enabling hardware transcoding, the server starts playing the file, but it is doing software transcoding. Gpu usage is close to 0% and cpu spikes to 100%…
This is a problem on Windows side I think but I can’t seem to find a solution to it.
I say it must be on windows side because I am also trying with emby and it can only see and use the gpu decoders, but not encoders.
I do not know what to do anymore. Is there anything I can try?
Can’t diagnose the issue without PMS logs.
Hello MovieFan
Please check this thread, I have the logs attached: Hardware transcoding in windows server 2016 + quadro p400
I know for sure it is an issue from sindows server 2016, as I tried to test install windows server 2019 and it is working
