Hardware transcoding

I run plex media on windows 7 PC, I have plex pass. My cpu is a intel i7-3770 3.50 Ghz, I have a Geforce GT 1030 vid card.
I have read that the GT 1030 does not support in- transcoding only decoding??
I can click the two tabs for HW transcoding in the setup menu.
I thought it would not allow you to click it if your hardware was not able to help??
Should i keep them checked or uncheck, is the I7-3770 fast enough to handle the work load? I understand it depends on player side, but lets just say two stream at 1080 to 720 will the i7-3770 be alright with out HW help??
WHats a good low buget Vid card that would help and is better the the gt-1030.
thanks for any input.

The hw-transcoding related settings are not reflecting your hardware capabilities.
I’m not familiar with the Geforce – the i7-3370 won’t do you much good when it comes to hw-transcoding. It took Intel several more generations to get this working (IIRC CPUs from Kaby Lake onwards should be ok → Intel Core ix-6xxx or newer).

That being said… the CPU has a Passmark score of approx. 9400. This should good enough for 3-4 1080p transcodes (maybe 5-6 720p transcodes).

Not sure you’ll find good equipment to refit a 10 year-old computer.
A current generation NUC (or similar mini PC) should give you pretty much the same performance and capability to use the iGPU for hw-transcoding at a much lower power consumption (e.g. using a Core i5-1135G7).

thank you, that info was helpful
