My Synology DS220+ NAS wants to update the Container Manager to version 24.0.2-1535 and I’m not sure if this is a good thing due to the changes they made. Several changes say that the new version prevents changing settings and you have to install a new container to change things…which sounds pretty dumb. I think they have crappy coders but it seems to be a Docker module so I guess I’m conflicted…
At any rate, has anyone else installed this update and then tried to do a Plex update or make any changes in their Plex container settings yet? Did you experience any issues? I’ll prob have to wait a while to hear back from someone since this update is so new.
Here are some of the changes:
As of this version, settings for containers—including ports, volumes, environments, and links—cannot be modified post-creation. To modify the settings, duplicate a desired container and make the change to the newly created one.
Updated Docker Daemon to version 24.0.2 (note that this version is ALREADY in EOL status!)
Restricted the “Enable resource limitation” option to be unmodifiable once it was enabled for the container
So does that mean you updated and have no problems installing Plex updates? I’m just wondering if I will have to create a new container every time I update Plex or not…
I confirmed the loss of functionality (editing a container config) once created.
I’ve never been able to get an update without recreating the container
(why I don’t use docker. It has no benefit over native package plus more complex to use)
For what it’s worth, I have a DS224+ and updated a few days ago. I have NEVER used container manager, I manage all my docker containers with docker-compose files and portainer, but the new docker daemon hasn’t had any issues.
Watchtower runs at 01:00 and updates all my containers, and it’s done updates since the DSM container manager update.
Updating containers in Container Manager is a button press. Easy and painless.
That said, im not updating CM unless it will be forced. Not being able to edit a container is BS.
It works with the current DSM release? I had problems running Watchtower and stopped using it a year or two ago and have never checked back. When it worked it was a great app…
My watchtower container on my DSM 7.2.2. nas was created 2024-02-19 03:51:13
and on my ubuntu 22.04 machine created 2024-08-14 04:27:25
Don’t jinx me, but I haven’t had a problem at all.
