Has automatic marking as played behaviour changed?

Plex Media Server: Version 1.31.0.6654
Plex Web Version: Version 4.101.1

Previously if I played something and clicked on 10-20 seconds before the title finished and then stopped the player, it would mark the title as played. Now it doesn’t. Has the behaviour changed or is this a bug?

The behavior itself hasn’t changed. A video is considered as watched/played once you pass a certain threshold/percentage.

What has changed is that you can now manipulate the applicable threshold (e.g. by setting it to 70, 80, 90 or 100%). With the introduction of credit detection, Plex will also consider a video as watched when you pass the 1st credit marker.

Yeah nah, I get this but playing the last seconds which is way past the 75-90% progress bar, no matter how many seconds you’ve run the title, should mark videos as played, no?

Does this affect only one particular video or several in the library?
If it is only one video, check all your other devices and web browsers if this video is still somewhere open in a player, in perpetual Pause mode.

Another idea:
Take a look into Settings - Server - Library - ‘Show Advanced’ - “Video play completion behaviour”
what is selected there.
Then call up the Plex media info XML of that video and look for a section which looks like

<Marker id="332898" type="credits" startTimeOffset="xxxxxxxxxx" endTimeOffset="yyyyyyyyyy">
<Attributes id="332898" version="4"/>
</Marker>

Also extract the property duration="nnnnnnnnnn".
These are helpful to know that

  • the credit detection has already been performed (if type="credits" is missing, it hasn’t happened yet)
  • at which time marker it has been placed
  • how long the video is in total

By comparing of nnnnnnnn with yyyyyyyyyy you can also determine if the algo has detected post-credit content.
