I’ve got USB WinTV dualHD working nice, but I notice in settings its reported as having 4 tuners.
This leads to problems because it tries to use more tuners than are available so Im getting odd crashes and LiveTV not working all the time.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
What OS are you running Plex on? I have a WinTV dualHD and it has always only been shown by Plex as a 2 tuner device. I use it on Windows 10.
You could probably delete the DVR and install it again and see if it then appears a as 2 tuner device.
Running on Windows Server 2012R2. Would be cool if somehow it actually had 4 tuners, but alas it doesnt.
Ive got quite a few programs set to record - do you know if I remove it and add back will I loose the recording schedule? I notices all that stuff disappears when you’ve no tuner setup.
You do not lose the recording schedule if you remove the tuners.
I found a gap in my recording schedule and removed the DVR, then set it up again but it still shows as having 4 tuners.
Also I@m getting blue screens.
The drivers are from Hauppauge WinTV 8.5 (only installed drivers).
Ive been looking into this further. I notice that DVB Viewer also reports 4 tuners in the setup wizard but thats because the device can do cable and antenna so 4 makes sense. But given that I selected “Antenna” during the Plex DVR setup it should only show the 2 antenna tuners, yet it shows 4.
So whats going on?
Did a little more investigating on this. I still have 4 tuners showing but no longer crashing. Actually whatever was going on was also causing a bluescreen crash when trying to watch live tv.
So I uninstalled the drivers and checked “Delete the driver software”. After rebooting device manager showed “dualHD” with yellow triangle - no drivers. Next I installed 05/18 issued WinTV 8.5 but cancelled after the driver install bit so I just got the updated drivers. In Plex DVR setting I removed the now “not found” tuner and went through detecting and setup again.
Since this Ive not had any further issues. I did change a few other settings though. In the Tuner settings I set “Convert Video while Recording” to Transcode. No more popup transcoder crash messages and no more blue screens. Live TV now works properly, I previously got sound but no video.
UPDATE: Im still getting Transcoder crashes, and Ive made a post specifically about that.
I BOUGHT A SECOND IDENTICAL TUNER and it shows as having 2 tuners as expected. See image.
I dont know if the 4 tuners thing is responsible for the crashes but it sure is odd! Anyone else got two or more duah-HD tuners?
Tried a few more things, like deleting everything uninstalling/reinstalling etc. Still one of them shows as 4 tuners and the other does not.
Baffling.
