HD 5.1 trailers not a thing?

Using plex media player. Why are there no HD 5.1 surround sound trailer options? Whenever you watch a trailer for a movie or you have it setup to player trailers before your movie starts it is always garbage trailers in low quality stereo sound. I thought the whole point was to have a theater experience at home? How do you get it to play high quality surround sound trailers?

Have you seen a source for higher quality trailers though? Most HTPC apps simply scrape web services for this content and the audio is usually garbage at the source. You can find fairly good video quality (for streaming), but I haven’t found many sites that offer anything better than low bitrate stereo audio.

I agree with you, trailer quality can vary wildly and audio is often very bad. I just don’t know where Plex would gain access to higher quality source material. Studios have it, but I don’t know that they make that available for web scraping.

Makes sense. Thank you for offering up an explanation. I did find a couple sites where you can download the trailers in high quality but the list is very limited.

If anything higher quality exists that also offers API access, it’d be something that could be (feasibly) tied into Plex, but I know many services frown when higher traffic clients like Plex start hammering their site (or at least they used to). The only way I see this getting better inside Plex itself is if any of the existing providers improve their default quality or if another (yet unknown) provider emerges that could replace the current ones.

I agree it’s a bummer though, the trailer quality mirroring the movie you’re about to watch would be more ideal than garbled stereo blasting out your A/V system.
