In the LG Content store it says that the apphas not been updated since 2016 is this the case?

That is an artifact of how the LG store works.

The app is updated regularly. You can follow updates on the Plex for Smart TVs & TiVo thread. To be notified when the app is updated, scroll to bottom of thread and change “Normal” to “Watching.”
