Guys,
If I am using the HD homerun with cable card, will I be able to View Live TV remotely and DVR unencrypted TV channels?

If so, would this be available on my remote ROKU equipped TV using their Plex app? Or even better a Vizio TV with the APP already built in?

Yes I have a Plex Pass and A top of the line PC running plex server with over 250TB storage

Thank you

Jeff

Yes. I have the same setup. It works fine with a Roku equiped TV or with the Roku box with their Plex app. I don’t know about Vizio. LG OLED C8 quit due to certificate issue and now is used with Roku box externally.

I have been using Happauge USB tuners on my cable system to watch unencrypted basic cable channels on Plex. I was notified by cable system they will be encrypting basic channels. Will the HDHomeun Prime with cable card allow me to continue watching these channels? Is it dependent on service provider? I already have cable boxes to view my contracted content on my TV’s.

Which Cable provider? I n 2 locations I have Fios and Spectrum

Thanks !

If you have a cable card it does not mater if the channel is encrypted or not. That is what what the cable card is for is to decrypt the channels if needed. The only thing you will not be able to use is the on demand type channels.

Hi

But I can view DVR recordings of unencrypted channels remotely, right?

You can watch any channels that your package has remotely. I can watch HBO remotely no issues. I have Xfinity but I use a Ceton cable card not HD Homerun.

I own 3 cetons and a homerun, I did not know ceron infini was supported

Okay, so hbo qam though encrypted stream remotely?

As long as I can remote view my second home DVR’d recordings Ill be happy as well as watching Channels I do not have at remote site but do on server end

I have my Ceton installed in my Unraid NAS which has Plex running in a Docker container and the Ceton is running in a Windows VM. In order to use the Ceton you need to run a program called Ceton Proxy which makes the Ceton look like a HD Homerun tuner to Plex.

By the time the video is sent to to Plex the video has already been decrypted. The only issues I have sometimes is when a show has been set to not be able to record. We have that problem a lot on the Lifetime channels where you can’t set the show to record.

But CBS, NBC,ABC broadcast basic always come through?

I am taking the Verizon Fios Cable card from my Ceton and putting it into Homerun

It has to pair, do I have to call Verizon to pair them or can I self pair online ?

Thanks,

Jeff

I have Optimum. Sounds like this is a solution going forward.

I think you have to call the provider to pair unless they have an option online to do it.

Strange!

Took the card out of my Ceton, put it into the Homerun, HD cable card device, channel lineup picked up by Plex and NO pairing necessary, or was it automatically done with FIOS as my provider and also, no tuning adapter too, Just NO pairing needed, I do not understand that

Doing a similar setup with my spectrum and another homerun with a tuning adapter, we shall see how that goes if it self pairs

In meantime love it, tv/ dvr wherever i am, cept for some buffering but maybe since TV is on wi fi and not ethernet

Jeff

It may be that the process is to activate the card and not actually pairing the card to the tuner.

So if nothing is encrypted, pairing between device host and cable card cia cable company not necessary?

As far as I understand, the card does all the authorization and decryption.
