HDD recommendations for plex media server and downloader

Hi everyone,
I’m going to be getting an Intel nuc to use as a plex media server but also as a torrent downloader so it manages everything. My thinking is though, that with it being a torrent downloader so there’s going to be a lot of random activity as it seeds now and then. There won’t be downloads everyday but due to the nature of torrents there will be a lot of activity on the drive.

Do I need something that is maybe NAS rated or will any HDD do?

The two I’m looking at are the WD red 1tb (for the NAS rated longevity).

I the seagate / Samsung m9t 2tb or the extra space.

It’s only about £15 more for the extra 1tb.

What do you guys think?

Keep in mind the drive has to be a 2.5" and 9.5mm height.

Thanks all

Go WD Red. NAS drives have longer warranties and are meant for 24/7 constant use. Normal cheaper consumer drives are meant for intermittent use. WD Reds are legendary for being reliable and inexpensive. The “Pro” version is unnecessary. Seagate has been having reliability issues in recent years.

This. I used any drives I had at first, some green, some blue. Have replaced them all with reds because the others have failed.

Couldn’t have said it better! I’ve had many Seagates fail recently. I’ve
switched to WD Reds and couldn’t be happier.

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards the Seagate for the extra 1TB but I’ve gone for the WD Red instead.
