HDHomeRun DVR | Cannot Play Video (audio only)

Hi all,

I’m running Plex Media Server on a WD NAS and have hooked up an HDHomeRun Connect to my antenna here in New Zealand to watch and record FreeView channels. Everything is set up correctly with EPG data and all. But when I go to record a show it only records the audio. Plex does think it’s recorded 1080i video but it’s black.

I can view live TV with video and audio on my Mac with the HDHomeRun software, so that means the Connect is set up correctly I believe.

I’m thinking it’s either a PMS issue or a NAS issue since I could watch it with HDHomeRun software on my Mac.

Any help would be appreciated! So close to making this work!

Just kidding – I’ve been trying to watch the recordings off my Apple TV, thinking that since it’s just a TV show recording like any other (not live TV), it wouldn’t matter what I’m watching it back on since it’s just a file.

I can view it correctly from a web browser. iOS is only audio, Apple TV is only audio.

This is strange considering iOS is supported with Plex DVR and Live TV.

So looking at the filesystem, my shows “7 Days” records fine to its own folder and season folder as a .mkv. I can play the .mkv just fine (btw, transcoding is not enabled). Seems all good.

But I can’t play video back on Apple TV or iOS (audio only still). Kind of a problem.

Is this because it’s recorded in 1080i? I really don’t know. Seems Plex has done some funky stuff… even though it’s just a .mkv file.

I’d try to transcode it manually to another format and see if playback works, but when trying to move the files it says I don’t have permission. Has Plex just taken over my server?? I can access other files and videos except recorded shows!!
