HDHomeRun Quatro - PLEX OTA live or recorded won't play

The Quatro works fine with the HDHomeRun Windows, iOS, Android apps, etc., but the Plex OTA live won’t work consistently. It just grinds away without ever playing on either the server app or the Plex web apps on other machines.

Same with the Quatro OTA recordings. The recordings are fine, and can be played with VLC, File Browser, etc., but NOT with Plex. With Plex, they just grind away and never actually play.

Obviously, Plex is recording the OTA files just fine, but won’t play live or its own OTA recordings, even though other apps will.

Plex plays downloaded files from the internet just fine. It’s just the OTA live and recorded that record OK, but won’t play back via the Plex app only.

Turning on the experimental Quatro transcode option in Plex seems to help, but the files are over 4gb for an hour long broadcast, but only 1 gb WiITHOUT the transcode option, which is great, only they won’t play via Plex.

Anybody have suggestions?

What are you using for a server? Without using qsync or some other hardware gpu you would need a cpu with a 2000 passmark score per stream.
An hour long TV show should be 6-8 GB MPEG2 .ts unless it is being optimized/compressed. Browsers don’t play mpeg2 natively, on Windows 10 you can get the libraries for free from the Windows store and this will stop any mpeg2 to 264 conversion going on during live play.
Some but not all Roku’s handle mpeg2, probably be easier to list the devices you have. that don’t work.

Re: HDHomeRun Quatro Connect

The Plex server is running on an up to date Windows 10 HP I7 Notebook with 12gb of ram and a SSD drive.

Passmark was 3100 while still running a bunch of stuff. There’s plenty of CPU and network bandwidth available.

Everything is connected by gigabit ethernet so there’s no network bandwidth issue.

Default Plex settings for transcoder, etc.

Not trying to play the files on a browser, per se (under Chrome), but just trying to use the normal Plex player/server. The Plex web app on other devices won’t play the OTA recordings either, but apps like VLC will play beautifully, so there’s nothing wrong with the recordings. It’s Plex’s playback that doesn’t work. The Plex player will play everything else except Live and OTA recordings.

Everything is connected by gigabit ethernet. Default Plex settings.

Plex is optimizing / compressing the recordings fine. It’s just that they won’t play back even though every other player can play them fine. Kind of ironic but annoying that Plex won’t play it’s own recordings, but everything else will.

Does Plex Server under Chrome need a special codec to run Plex’s own recordings perhaps? I checked, and the MPEG2 Codec from the Windows Store is installed as recommended when prompted playing a stream. I guess I could delete it and see if things work better…

I have a HDHR Prime that the PMS received as MPEG2 for live TV and PMS stops playing them after a few minutes producing “weak signal” error. All other channels play fine. Is there a way to get PMS to play live channels that arrive as MPEG2??
fyi I’m running PMS on Qnap TS251+ and watching on Roku on TLC TV
