Hello dear Plex Community!
Since there is still no thread of my own on this topic and I don’t want to continue hijacking other threads, here is my own discussion that can then hopefully be identified as a success one day.
My server: Ubuntu 21.04 with current updates and software
Hardware: Intel i3 10100 with UHD 630 an Z490, 16GB RAM and P5 NVMe (RAM transcoding)
When I tried to transcode a 4K HDR source into an SDR, I noticed that this was done entirely in software and that the CPU was overloaded accordingly and the GPU was useless.
Then I was informed that due to the outdated Beignet and OpenCL packages, newer processors are not supported. Enable Comet Lake support by rcombs · Pull Request #20 · intel/beignet · GitHub
The solution to modify the packages myself is not feasible for me. If I understand correctly, the Plex team is working on a solution and wants to replace the outdated one.
The following processors do NOT yet support the tone mapping feature in hardware:
- some Coffe Lake processors
- all Amber Lake
- all Comet Lake processors
- all upcoming processors such as Rocket Lake or Alder Lake
So dear Plex team, I hope that the Intel Compute Runtime is the right solution for us and that you can integrate it successfully. I would be happy if this thread can be marked as solved in the near future. Many thanks and regards ! KCX
