Help! Got a New Mac and Nothing is Working!

I’m currently on day 3 of sorting out my new Mac. I’ve had my Macbook Pro for approx 8 years, really wasn’t looking forward to making a change, but the old one keeps restarting and is so slow.

I am fairly un-technical, so please help in layman’s terms. I used Migration Assistant to move applications to new MAC via time machine, just a pain and actually seemed useless. No info was retained.

Signed into Plex (finally) and found no libraries, figured out how connect server with new computer. Copied all my movies/shows onto hard drive and then on to new computer. Added movies library, but nothing in my folder is mine! It’s movies I’ve never heard of.

I kept all titles the same. Just copied full folder onto new computer. I am so lost now as to what to do! Reading articles, it seems this was the wrong thing to do, but I don’t know how to fix.

Any advice/encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

In addition to copying your media you must also copy some metadata and playlist files.
