Mac server migration not seeing old data

I have followed the steps here: Move an Install to Another System | Plex Support to migrate from an older Mac install to a new M1 Mac Mini. I started by copying everything over, but got errors about the codecs when starting Plex. I assume that’s to do with moving to the new M1 so I started over and copied over everything except the codec directory. Now, Plex will start up but it doesn’t recognize any of the old data. There are no libraries. As an experiment I added a library and pointed it at a media directory (all of my media is external). It added everything fine, but as a new library. All of my existing customizations like tags and collections are gone. I’m sure I’m missing a step somewhere.

For Mac to Mac all you should need to do is

  1. copy the Plex Media Server folder from ~/Library/Application Support on old computer same location on new computer
  2. copy the server plist file in ~/Library/Preferences to the same location on new computer
  3. For simplicity make the media paths match. If they were in /Volumes/BigDrive/Movies. then make them the same on new computer.

Oof. I found the issue. I noticed that the plugin-support directory had a rather recent looking modified date. I think I somehow got the new version copied into the old directory. I fixed that and it’s working now. Thanks for your help.
