HELP. Lost all my libraries when running the PLEX UPDATE on Plex Media Server (Terramaster NAS)

Server Version#:1.19.4.2935
Player Version#:

I lost the ability to connect from ALL my devices in my home, Android and Windows, using either the android app or the Webbrowser interface.

So I logged into the server to perform an update. THE UPDATE HUNG AT 50%, so I opened up the Plex Media Server app, on the desktop of my Terramaster NAS and when the “Enable plex” window came up I clicked on the lower right “Reset”…

Now I can open up plex but ALL MY LIBRARIES ARE GONE

QUESTION:
How to bring back the two years worth of data entry that I entered in?

  • Library re-install?

PLEASE TELL ME PLEX HAS WRITTEN IN BACKUP AND RESTORE OF LIBRARY FILES???

  • I had EXTREME METADATA entered into two years worth of NON-STOP Movie and tv show importing that took FOREVER to accomplish

If you reset it then it is likely gone.

The data folder is here. https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/#toc-2. See if there are any database backups, If there are not then there is likely nothing from previous install. https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/

But even web browsers have the ability to Import and Export Bookmarks.

  • it seems like something like this would be BUILT-IN

If you reset and therefore deleted the database there is nothing to import.

The database and it’s associated files are much more complicated than a browsers bookmarks

Is there a way to Export metadata and stuff, from a working install?

  • as well as an Import metadata feature?

Just the Libraries, so that if a crash or something occurs, that server can be brought back to the last backup of libraries?

Metadata isn’t some simple file to back up and import. They are thousands of files and the database itself. They are all in the PMS folder. If you have a working install on another terramaster then just copy the whole PMS folder to the new machine. (except the preferences.xml file)

Copying from different types will not work because different operating systems have different file systems. Windows users drive letters for example F:/media/movies . Mac OS uses volumes like Volumes/MacHD/Media. So the paths to data will not match.

I can do this, I need to figure out something, I can’t go through this again. Litterally, life is to short. Spent two years working on the library data that went into my setup… You say I can copy out the entire PMS directory, as a backup, and then just copy it back in, in the event of a file failure?

Just RAW file copy?

Yes. I do suggest only making a copy while the server is not running as you don’t want it actively writing to the database while you do it.

Thank you, after I rebuild for about 2 months, argh, I will do a direct copy while the server is suspended

Was thinking about looking into drive imaging, but this will do for now. Appreciate your replies
