Help Me Understand - PMS 1.9.1.4272 - Outside Plex Forward

@Gregflix

Thank you for the quick responses.

I appreciate Plex trying to help alleviate this issue.

I did test this just now in Safari and it did indeed work. Requires extra clicks but it works.

Edit:

Can you pass along to the team if they can keep the original URI so when authentication is complete it will go to the original request and not just the main screen. i.e. episode url…

@Gregflix it just seems a tad confusing when presented with the options to login now…username/email was fairly easy is it possible to push it back to that and have the other buttons instead?

THIS IS 100% BULL ■■■■.

I totally understand the hardening of security. However, if I’m hosting a PMS via my webserver, it’s up to me to ensure security measures are in place.

Also, adding a google and FB (lol) login auth? Umm, yeah, totally enhances security.

Look let’s be honest here guys - You updated the privacy ToS a few weeks back, now you’ve “integrated” with FB and Google. Did you take OUR security responsibilities in your hands and POSSIBLY make it more secure SURE.

But you’re selling our data as well, and that’s really the motivation behind this “subtle” change.

I’ve always wanted to host a neflix mirror. Yay.

I’d agree with the above, albeit with a little less aggression. I think the biggest issue is that it seems like the Plex staff has really lost touch with their user base. It seems like many of the issues you’ve been running into lately, as an organization, can be attributed to not understanding how your users are using your software or what they’re wanting out of it. That used to be your strongest point, and without it unfortunately you can never get the full success you think you’re worth. Let’s use some examples:

Google started out as a search company. They listened and responded to what their users wanted, and now they’re one of the biggest companies in the world. Android started out rough and partially broken, but they listened and responded to what their users wanted, and now it’s probably the best mobile operating system (personal experience, but I’ve found many others that agree).

Apple does what they think is right and builds things based on their own perceptions and understandings. That gave them a lot of success for awhile, but lately their sales have stagnated, when compared to their competitors. Their products have evolved based on what they think the industry should do and how they feel the devices should work, but they haven’t listened to users as much lately. Their user base is starting to fade.

Yahoo is the better example of this. They stopped listening to their customer base years ago, thinking they knew what was best.

I also did setup my own domain with an reverse proxy to MY selfhosted plex server application. And now you are breaking all my certificates and ssl security enhancements, because you thought it is better. Just give us local users we can access.

Just don’t break my reverse proxy with much stronger encryption. You guys totally f***ed it up. I am so angry just because you wasted a lot on time and fiddling with nginx on my side.

I immediatly stopped my jail with my plex server application. I think i will setup an emby jail or a simple dlna server (mediatomb) or whatever. Connecting my selfhosted applications to other servers and linking google and facebook login api’s is enough. That is just dumb.

I agree with the above. You have attempted to solve a problem that some users, perhaps the majority of users, may face. In doing so you have alienated a smaller core group of users who champion your product and want do to things their own way.

Throwing my hat in the ring, because I just get downvoted when I try to reply to the devs on reddit – iframing is a must, and I’d really rather be able to disable the social media logins. I don’t much care if they’re an option, or even if users wanna use em, but my users, on my server should be my choice.

Forcing a redirect to the app.plex.tv domain breaks my use-case entirely. None of my users have access to that domain via their networks due to local policy. Previously, my server would authenticate them itself, making it’s own callback to app.plex.tv, allowing them to log in via my personal domain directly.

I will be attempting to rollback this update and will not be updating again until this issue is resolved. Otherwise, I will be abandoning this project outright.
