I’m getting this message when I try to signin to Plex can someone tell me what this means?

Me also. I only use Plex on my network at home, but it’s a bit alarming!
From what I understand this is supposed to help prevent phishing attacks where some attacker tries to obtain your Plex credentials. You should only login using the Plex authentication if you know that particular server (e.g. if you know it’s yours). If you authenticate using the version of Plex Web hosted by Plex themselves, you should not get that warning (e.g. http://app.plex.tv/desktop)
Ok, but does it really needs to be shown like that?

Its my own Plex Server and as you can see, the message is so large that the Button (orange) will be hidden
I am still confused by this message (see attached).
I am running the Plex Browser App. Is this the application that the message is referring to? Who is hosting the Plex web page (app.plex.tv)?
Also, I don’t see any server identified here.
Thanks for your assistance.
We’re looking into this currently. It’s absolutely confusing and this isn’t the intended user experience.
Our authorization service (the logic behind the /auth/ part of the URL) will be updated to avoid this confusion.
We’ve resolve this issue and apologize for the inconvenience!
OK Thanks!
But, I now have another plex.tv logon issue. Where do you close this window ? …
Also, another question. Where do you go to sign on and off the plex server?
Many thanks!
The browser window itself. In this case it appears to be the only tab, so you close the whole browser.
Signing on should happen during the initial setup.
Signing out is done in
Settings - Server - General
If you cannot find this menu item, you need to:
Hello
I am still seeing this problem of a message that my server is not hosted by Plex etc. and I am also not able to then sign-in to my account. This is on both my windows and Mac machines.
However, if I open a new browser window I can then sign into my account as normal, this has been going on for a couple of weeks - the server is on a Qnap NAS and other than the issue stated everything seems to be working as normal other than the Plex client in Kodi now appears to have a ‘Plex’ option in the server list but this is unable to connect so only the spinnering wheel is seen when this option is highlited.
Thanks.
I still see the warning every time I open plex:
and in setting “Automatically Sign In” wont stay checked now ![]()
Use https://app.plex.tv instead
Using the local web app is only intended for initial setup and for internet outages.
Hallo Matt,
I still got this problem (till now 4-7-2020) when I start plex on my Nas Server. Another occuring problem is that Plex don’t add new music files. The dashboard stays the same as it was.
me too. many days the some error.
I have plex pass but i need fix this error.
Hello
I have the same problem that my server is not hosted by Plex … and I am also not able to then sign-in to my account (there is an error)
I’m owner of a plex pass and my datas are on the synology storage.
I’m only able to sign in with plex.tv - somebody ist able to help me?
Thanks, Martin
Same here, for days now and it’s really frustrating. Even when I login at my own risk, still can’t find my Synology as a server even though my PMS is located on the same NAS. I surfed through Plex and Synology forums with no luck, either too technical for a normal user, or useless in solving that problem for a month now! HELP
@mpaxx It’s not clear to me what error is preventing sign-in there, but if you’re able to sign-in at plex.tv and not to PMS, then something seems awry, particularly because it appears that the single-sign-on cookie is working and you’re already recognized as signed-in, and just need to get your token into the requesting app.
Are you able to spot any discrepancies between the successful and unsuccessful sign-in requests in the network tab of your browser?
@apco If you know the IP address of the host where Plex Media Server is running you may be able to visit the app directly at port 32400; for example http://192.168.0.2:32400
Once signed-in, verify the Plex Media Server instance is claimed. Finally, when using the app hosted at https://app.plex.tv/desktop check the network tab for the /resources request from plex.tv; this response should include all servers to which your signed-in user has access.
If the server isn’t listed there, try restarting the server. Claimed server presence is announced to plex.tv on app start-up, but if there are networking issues preventing the server from communicating with plex.tv, it will not appear as available.
I am getting the same error message as others in this forum. My Plex Server is running from your official images in a docker container.
Open Firefox
https://plexserver:32400/web/index.html
Forwards to: https://app.plex.tv/auth/#!?clientID=
See : “This application is at plexserver and is not hosted by Plex. Continue only if you recognize this server and wish to grant access.”
Continue with email to log in
See : This application is at plexserver and is not hosted by Plex. Continue only if you recognize this server and wish to grant access.
I’m now in a login loop. I’m only seeing my email address that I just logged in with and “Sign In”
In order to get to my plex server I then strip all trailing crap off the URL to just go to https://app.plex.tv/
Forwards to https://app.plex.tv/desktop where I see the “Select User” option
I can now see my plex server if i use https://app.plex.tv/desktop and not my own URL (that worked like a month ago)
I’m concerned that some “feature” was added and now I’m relying on being online to view Plex via browser. I’m also concerned about the security of this as i’m going through the plex servers (which I don’t want)
Note: This only seems to affect my browser. My Roku devices are currently unaffected (please don’t add this “feature” to them)
Also: I have set my “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth” to 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 (also tried 192.168.1.1/24) yet I’m still being asked to log in. Is this not set right or is this no longer used by the system?
