Hello, I need help. I have rebuilt my library fully about 5 times 18 months so don’t want to have to go through all that again [700+ movies, 100+TV shows, 1700 Albums, Home Videos, etc].
For my last library rebuild in the summer, I started from scratch - moving the metadata externally to a fast San Disk USB 3.0 128gb flash drive / stick. All has been fine until this week.
Plex Media server stopped working and would not restart despite all manner of attempts, hard resets, etc. I resorted to uninstalling Plex updates in the Google Play store; and then re-updating them. On doing this, PMS had forgotten that I now had my metadata stored externally on USB.
I did not want to ‘move it’ externally again, out of fear that it would overwrite my metadata present on the USB stick. As a result I stopped the server; safely removed the USB drive and proceeded to create a new metadata library from scratch onto a smaller, clean 32gb USB drive - and name that USB stick with the same name (MS33). I then removed this and inspected the different USB drives on my PC to establish the difference. Now setup to look for an externally hosted metadata directory, I then inserted the original MS33 metadata library on the 128gb USB drive into the shield and it would not recognise it. I safely stopped the server and USB drive and swapped back the fresh 32gb one and it would not now see this either.
I guess that there are may be some local configuration files which are unique to the new 32gb stick. I uninstalled all Plex updates; reinstalled them and then it DID recognise my external metadata drive again on the 32gb stick. I stopped the server, safely removed this USB stick and tried the 128gb stick again - no joy. I did the uninstall / reinstall again and it did not show an external metadata location. I create a fresh 32gb instance again and was successful. I repeated the 128gb swap and still no joy.
So, in essence I have a complete copy of my metadata library on a 128gb drive that I do not want to lose. Assuming that any new externally hosted metadata library will have local variations - what directories from my original 128gb drive can I copy onto the 32gb instance to get it to work perfectly with my new stick? Is it just the ‘METADATA’ subfolder - or are others needed.
I desperately need help and I am not that technically competent. I’ll also post this on the Nvidia forum - thanks in advance.
