Hi Folks,
I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong, but after searching the forums and trying a bunch of things, I’m still struggling, so thought I’d post for help here. I’m running Plex Media Server on a Synology DS918+ (version 1.10.1.4602). I have my movie library pointed to my iTunes movie library: /volume1/iTunes Library/Movies, but it’s picking up iTunes Extras as well. To counter this, I’ve added a .plexignore file to that exact directory. I’ve tried a number of versions of the .plexignore file, but when I go to start a library scan each time, Plex continues to search the .ite directories.
My .plexignore file contains: /.ite/**/. .ite//.ite/* //.ite/
.ite/
I’m sure some of those are redundant, but having seen so many differing attempts in the forums, and having none work, I thought I’d try the shotgun approach. However, Plex continues to scan those folders.
I created the .plexignore file on my Mac using textedit, uploaded it to my Synology using File Manager, then renamed the file to .plexignore.
Thanks – that’s is what I’ve done (tried it again and re-scanned library), and yet it’s still scanning those subfolders and including them in the movie directory.
Finally got it working… Placed a .plexignore file in the /volume1/iTunes Library/Movies folder, with this (and only this) text in it:
.ite/
Then it worked.
AND I think I know why this is causing confusion for so many others. Typing in the exact text of the .plexignore file in the forums causes the forum software to not display the asterisks. A screenshot of my exact .plexignore file is below (note how it looks different than the rendering by the forum software above).
To be clear, use the text from the screenshot above, NOT what you might copy and paste from the text in line 4 of this post. Your .plexignore file line should have a preceding and ending asterisk.
Thanks for all the help, and hopefully this can help out the next person!
Not an expert, but if I read your screenshots correctly, the directory you want to ignore is
“The Smurfs 2 - iTunes Extras (v1.0).ite” not simply “.ite”
I might try
The Smurfs 2 - iTunes Extras (v1.0).ite/*
or
*.ite/*
Not sure how the spaces in the folder name will effect the plexignore file. Single or double quotation marks might help if that’s a problem.
@leelynds - I agree. Though I’m glad Airbeagle sorted it out before I came back, after seeing the actual name of the folders, I too would have recommended *.ite/*
From the original description, I literally thought the folder names were /blah/.ite/
@AirBeagle1 - Good tip for those that don’t know. I fortunately know, and wrap my asterisks in the “code” Markdown.
