HELP! Ubuntu Server OS Hosting The Plex Server

Hello,
I am very frustrated with this problem that I have. Basically everything is working fine. The Server is up, accessible, and can stream stuff. However, I want to connect my external hard drive which is plugged into my router to my Plex server. But I can’t figure out how to mount the external drive to my Ubuntu Server. Therefore allowing my Plex Server to access it.

Thanks in advanced…

P.S. I am getting really frustrated because all the tutorials online are for Ubuntu OS not Ubuntu Server.

You need to plug the hard drive(s) directly into the server.

Remove it from your router and plug directly into the machine
Once plugged in, you will need to make certain all the permissions and mounts are handled.

Here is the How-To

Please understand, Linux is a very commanding and demanding OS. It likes to be in control (more than Windows) and is very unforgiving of mistakes. A solid basic understanding and mastery of the command line is necessary to use it properly.

Hey Chuck I understand that I can do that. But there is a way to do it with it being plugged into the router, because the external hard drive is being shared out to the network by the router. Therefore, I should be able to connect to it and read and write to it. I just need the proper help.

But thanks for the help

If you can NFS or SMB mount it, you can use it there.

Here’s the SMB one since the router is far more likely to support SMB/CIFS
