Hero Slider Implementation

I’m all for it! Creating a thematic section is a great idea. It would be awesome to have banners (backgrounds) sliding across the top with titles, runtimes, and a clickable play button for movies handpicked by the server admin.

Personally i dont think it should be selected by the admin. For example look at media bar in jellyfin, or the hero in Omni. You select maybe an overarching category like trending or new releases, then it pulls from those and shows it in the bar. Sure the option to manually control what’s on it would be great, but there should be at least an option to have it automaticly do that,

Exactly.

Here is how I envision the settings and flexibility for this feature:

  • Automated vs. Manual Content: There should be an option to let Plex populate the carousel automatically (e.g., pulling from “Continue Watching” or “Trending/Recently Added”). However, server admins must also have the option to manually choose exactly what content to feature.

  • Full Deactivation: As mentioned before, a simple toggle to completely disable and hide the banner for users who prefer a minimalist home screen is a must.

  • The Collection Challenge & Solution: The implementation could be as simple as selecting one of your existing Plex Collections. However, to solve the issue of wanting to feature content from different libraries simultaneously (Movies, TV Shows, etc.), Plex could either allow us to select a Smart Collection that aggregates media types, or let us pin a specific “Featured” tag across libraries. When selected, the titles would display beautifully at the top with their background art and logo.

This is how it should behave on the mobile app as well:

This is a great idea! Awesome visualization  a carousel like this would be a fantastic addition for a potential user.
