I would like to submit a feature request—not only on my own behalf, but also on behalf of the users of my server. The request concerns the implementation of a Hero Slider component at the top of the interface. This slider would allow the administrator to select 5–6 featured movies or TV series to be displayed prominently, with the ability to scroll or swipe through them (similar to the sliders seen on platforms like Netflix or other major streaming services).
Key requirements:
The slider should be visually appealing and responsive.
It should support manual selection of featured titles by the admin.
Interesting option, but it’s a bit of a workaround It would look much better as a ready-made Hero implemented directly in PLEX. You go into a movie’s options or some settings, select 6 movies, and the Slider automatically appears at the TOP. No tinkering needed.
You didn’t understtand what Otto said. This is already possible by pinning a collection. Add a movie or movies to a collection, and pin that collection to the home page.
It’s just not as a pretty as your screenshots because it doesn’t have the header of the item in the #1 spot.
This is how I have a bunch of Trending rows in my home page.
I think he understands Otto, but the details bit at the top is the bit he is referring to as the ‘hero’ part, and is the bit he really wants and is requesting.
It’s exactly about being able to select X movies to be displayed in a Hero slider above all libraries. Each item would show the title, a short description, year, rating, etc. And in the background behind the text, there’d be some kind of artwork from the movie—either added manually or pulled automatically from the movie’s background image.
You should edit your post because adding movies to a collection is already possible, and also, the header or “hero” feature already exists in the Roku version of Plex:
It features a banner of the first item selected. So the suggestion should be to bring that to all platforms, but also to add an option to select which “row” or collection will be on the very top (currently, the very top is “Continue Watching”)
They could add a 4th column in the Libraries settings page, although a drop-down menu somewhere in the same page would probably be better.
EDIT: Since I’m confident that the Plex Web and desktop versions will have the same UI as the Plex Experience UI, the only thing we really need here is the option to be able to pin something to the very tippy top. So I’m gonna save my vote for a different suggestion.
Yes, I know it’s there, but it appears when you hover over the video. What I mean is that the hero slider should be an independent entity where I can attach any selected movies or series. Something like ‘worth watching’ with the option for the user to play the selected slide.
See, this is why I think you don’t understand. You’re asking to reinvent something that’s already there. Like a “separate entity”
You must be new around here. We only ask for the easy-to-do stuff because there would at least be a chance it would get implemented in 5 years. What you’re asking for is going to take 20 years
Yes, I would like to add specific private media from my libraries. Let’s say I want to add a particular movie from the “Movies” library to the first slide, then maybe a movie from the “Anime” library on the second slide, and a series from the “TV Shows” library on the third, and so on. Everything should revolve around personal content.
People are used to big platforms like Netflix, Max, etc., and such features are available there. Besides, I personally think it’s a cool way to showcase some amazing movies from the libraries. It looks great on TV, smartphones, tablets, and PCs. You simply select 6 elements from your libraries, and the user sees a nice slider with the movie’s description, title, year, and IMDb rating (or something similar), which encourages them to watch it.
I know you’re not laughing at me But dreams exist to be realized. I’m not sure which programming language PLEX uses, but I believe the specialists at PLEX are pros, and things like this are probably a piece of cake for them
I feel like I’m missing some part of the suggestion.
Instead of a “published collection” which is displayed as hub, you’re looking for an option to have basically the same, but only listing the movie details with an option to slide left/right. Kind of like the recommendation hubs work today – but you don’t want to see the hub… just the content (“hero”) and an option to carousel through all items in that collection??
I’m confused… the Option 1/2/3 screenshots look very much like the published hubs work today – e.g. on the big screen apps. But again, maybe I’m simply missing some obvious / significant difference.
Okay, let me explain it this way. This isn’t about any collection. Let’s forget about collections and how they’re displayed. This is about a slider similar to the one Netflix used to have. In it, the admin selects 5–6 titles from different libraries (movies or TV shows), which they can change at any time. This slider will pull movie data (title, short description, release year, rating, and a play button), as well as the movie’s background image, which will serve as the background for the specific slide featuring that movie or show. And so on for the next slides.
Once we have this slider and the 5–6 titles selected by the admin, we place it at the top of the home screen. When a user opens Plex on, say, their TV, they’ll see this slider and the suggested titles to watch. If something catches their eye, they just click PLAY and start watching. Then, a week later, the admin selects another set of 5–6 titles, and the cycle continues.
Why do it this way? Because it looks clean and entices the user to click. The user doesn’t need to open the movie’s cover to read about it—just click play. This slider only appears in the HOME tab on TVs, tablets, and browsers.
And like I said, this isn’t about collections—I have plenty of those This is only about promoting selected titles from the library.
